Week: Be Still
As usual, each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.
We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.
Pause
Father God, we prepare our hearts to spend a quiet time together with You. As we pause to be still, help us to become just a bit more aware of Your constant love for us today.
We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:
Read by Annika
Psalm 46:10
Be still and know that I am God!
Psalm 46:10 (NLT)
God, help us to remember Your Word.
We’re REFLECTING on treasure. Not pirate treasure, but a different kind of treasure.
Read by Annika
Matthew 6:21
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21 (NIV UK)
There’s a saying, ‘we are what we love.’ This simply means the things we value the most are the things that really shape us and make us into the kind of people we are. Of course we can treasure all sorts of things like special gifts we’ve been given, the games or toys we love playing with the most, and even things like tasty ice cream! But at the end of the day those are just things and stuff. God wants us to treasure the things that He treasures too – like people and goodness, kindness and generosity.
Let’s press pause and chat about today’s question, which is: What are some of the good things in our lives that we treasure?
God gives us treasure too. God gives us peace, joy, hope, strength and so much more.
Generous God, we ASK You to help us treasure all the good things that You give to us.
Sadly there are lots of people around the world who have very little. Some are all alone, some are hungry and some don’t have anywhere to live.
Father God, we ASK you to help our government and all the other organisations working around the world to help people like this, and please God we ask that you would end poverty.
As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
Matthew 6:21
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21 (NIV UK)
What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?
And now, let’s say YES to God together.
Generous God, we’re grateful for all the good things that You give to us. We say YES to You today, and we ask You to help keep our hearts focused on where Your treasure is.
After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:
Psalm 46:10
Be still and know that I am God!
Psalm 46:10 (NLT)
Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.
Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.
Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
