With Unathi and Jackson J
Welcome to Lectio for Families. This week we are continuing to explore the life of Jesus as told in Mark’s Gospel.

Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:

In and out.

In and out.

We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Jesus, we hear Your invitation, and so we choose to follow You, with all our hearts, with all our minds, with all our souls and with all our strength.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

Today, we’re REFLECTING on the instructions that Jesus gave to His disciples when He sent them out

Read by Jackson J
Mark 6:7-9
He called his twelve followers together and got ready to send them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits. This is what Jesus commanded them: ‘Take nothing for your trip except a walking stick. Take no bread, no bag, and no money in your pockets. Wear sandals, but take only the clothes you are wearing.’

Mark 6:7-9 (NCV)

Imagine what it would be like if we were getting ready for a trip and someone gave us a packing list that said; Don’t take anything except a stick, the clothes you’re wearing right now, and maybe a pair of sandals. Crazy, hey?

It might seem strange to us but Jesus didn’t want His disciples to be distracted on their journey. And He also wanted them to trust that God would provide everything that they’d need along the way.

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: When we’re going on a trip somewhere, what things do we always take with us?

Ask

ASK Prayers

And now, we ASK God to help us and others.

Jesus, thank You that You promise to give us everything we need to tell others about You. We ASK You now to give us the words to say and the courage to say them.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Jesus sent the disciples in twos, as friends together. Who are the friends that encourage us, who pick us up, who help us to stay focused on Jesus?

Lord Jesus, thank You so much for these friends and for the ways that they have helped and encouraged us. We ASK You to pour out Your love and joy on their lives.

Yes

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

Jesus, we say YES to being sent out by You. Fill us with Your Spirit – give us courage to show and tell people about the good news of Your love.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
