With Chris and Liliwyn
Welcome to Lectio for Families. This week we have been focusing on a hero in the Bible – his name was Solomon and his life was shaped by learning and wisdom.

Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Holy Spirit, You are the best teacher. As we explore the Bible and listen to You, please help us to understand more about You, and draw closer to You.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

We’re REFLECTING today on a wise saying from Solomon about generosity.

Read by Liliwyn
Proverbs 3:27-28
Whenever you are able, do good to people who need help. If you have what your neighbor asks for, don’t say, ‘Come back later. I will give it to you tomorrow.’
Proverbs 3:27-28 (NCV)

Doing something for somebody else when it’s not convenient for us isn’t always easy. It can mean putting other people’s needs before our own. But Solomon says that it’s the best way to be – generous with our time, our energy and in helping others.

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: What different ways can we be generous towards others? Let’s think of as many ways as we can.

Ask

ASK Prayers

And now, we ASK God to help us and others…

Father God, our prayer is really simple… show us who we can be generous towards.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Let’s each think of somewhere around the world where people need help. Maybe it’s people who are trapped in a war zone, or maybe it’s people who don’t have enough food, water or medicine where they live.

Father God, first we ASK You to be with these people, and we ASK You to give them strength and comfort. And then we also pray for the leaders of our nations, that they would be generous in giving support and supplies to those who need it most.

Yes

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

Proverbs 3:27-28
Whenever you are able, do good to people who need help. If you have what your neighbor asks for, don’t say, ‘Come back later. I will give it to you tomorrow.’
Proverbs 3:27-28 (NCV)

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

Generous Father, the Bible says that when we come to You in prayer with our ASKS that You will give us all that we need. (John 14:13-14) We say YES to being generous towards others as we help and love them just like You do for us.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
