Week: Patience
Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.
We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.
Pause

Holy Spirit, You help us grow, each and every day, into who God made us to be. We’re ready to be changed a little bit more by You today.

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:
Read by Zoë
Psalm 62:5
I find rest in God;
only he gives me hope.
Psalm 62:5 (NCV)
God, help us to remember Your Word.

When David was only 15 the prophet Samuel came to visit him. Today, we’re REFLECTING on the surprising news that Samuel had for David.
Read by Zoë
1 Samuel 16:12-13, 2 Samuel 5:4
The Lord said to Samuel, ‘Go, appoint him, because he is the one.’
So Samuel took the container of olive oil and poured it on Jesse’s youngest son to appoint him in front of his brothers. From that day on, the Lord’s Spirit worked in David.
David was thirty years old when he became king, and he ruled forty years.
1 Samuel 16:12b-13a, 2 Samuel 5:4 (NCV)
God chose David to be the king when he was only 15 years old – and the Holy Spirit started working in and through his life from that moment on. However, David had to wait another 15 years before he actually became the king – that’s a long time to wait. David had to hold on to the promise that God had given him through lots of ups and downs during those 15 years. He had to wait patiently for God’s promise to come true.
Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: How old will we be in 15 years time? What would we like to be doing in 15 years time?

For fifteen years, the Holy Spirit worked in and through David’s life, growing the fruit of patience within him.
Holy Spirit, we ASK You to fill us too – grow patience within us, just like You did with David. Give us all we need to get through all the ups and downs in our lives, and to keep trusting that God is with us.
David was a great king, but he also made some very serious mistakes while he was leading the nation. Let’s think about the people who rule in our nations – politicians and leaders of businesses and churches – and pray for the Holy Spirit to be working in and through their lives.
Father God, we ASK You to be with the leaders in our nation – those who have power and influence. We pray that You would grow all the good fruit of the Spirit in their lives.

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

And now, let’s say YES to God together.
Father God, we know that You are faithful – You kept Your promises to David, and You will keep Your promises to us too. We say YES to waiting patiently for the things You want to do in and through our lives… even if it takes another 15 years.

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:
Psalm 62:5
I find rest in God;
only he gives me hope.
Psalm 62:5 (NCV)

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.
Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.
Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
