With Chris and Liliwyn
Welcome to Lectio for Families. This week we are focusing on a hero in the Bible – his name was Solomon and his life was shaped by learning and wisdom.
We’ll each need a piece of paper or a pebble and something to write with for our ASK prayers later, so it may be good to find these items now.

Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Holy Spirit, You are the best teacher. As we explore the Bible and listen to You, please help us to understand more about You, and draw closer to You.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

We can find lots of Solomon’s wise sayings in the book of Proverbs in the Bible. Today we’re REFLECTING on one of these.

Read by Liliwyn
Proverbs 3:3-4
Don’t ever forget kindness and truth. Wear them like a necklace. Write them on your heart as if on a tablet. Then you will be respected and will please both God and people.
Proverbs 3:3-4 (NCV)

Solomon explained that God wanted the people to be kind and truthful at all times. To help them remember how important this was, he encouraged them to ‘write them on your heart as if on a tablet’, so that the people would always remember. It’s like he was saying, never, ever forget to be kind and tell the truth – make these things a central part of your life.

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: Let’s think of a kind thing that someone has said to us or done for us?

Ask

ASK Prayers

And now, we ASK God to help us and others…

Loving God, we thank You for Your kindness to us. We ASK You to help us, even when it’s hard, to remember to be kind to those around us.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

On our piece of paper, or our pebble, let’s write the words ‘be kind’. Now let’s hold this as we pray.

Father God, we ASK You to use this to remind us to be kind to those around us. May Your love, expressed through our acts of kindness, draw people closer to You.

Now let’s put the piece of paper or the pebble in our pocket or somewhere else that will remind us to be kind.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Yes

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

Proverbs 3:3-4
Don’t ever forget kindness and truth. Wear them like a necklace. Write them on your heart as if on a tablet. Then you will be respected and will please both God and people.
Proverbs 3:3-4 (NCV)

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and tell each other

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

Loving God, we say YES to being kind. Use us to show Your love and kindness to others.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
