Week: Who is God?
Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.
We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.
Pause
Awesome God, thank you for the many ways you make yourself known. Our minds are open to learning more about You, and our hearts are open to knowing You better. We’re ready for You to speak to us.
We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Psalm 34:8 (NIVUK)
God, help us to remember Your Word.
When God’s people, the Israelites, were slaves in Egypt, God sent Moses to help them escape to freedom. Today, we’re REFLECTING on how God described Himself to Moses.

Exodus 3:13-14
Moses said to God, ‘When I go to the Israelites, I will say to them, “The God of your ancestors sent me to you.” What if the people say, “What is his name?” What should I tell them?’ Then God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am. When you go to the people of Israel, tell them, “I am sent me to you.”’
Exodus 3:13-14 (NCV)
Moses was really freaking out! Maybe he was worried that the Israelites wouldn’t believe that God had sent him, or that they wouldn’t trust Moses with such a big task. But then God gave Moses His name; ‘I AM’.
It sounds a bit strange because we would normally add something after that – I am kind, I am fair, and so on – but by using this name, God showed Moses that He was in all things. He was complete, unchanging. He is ‘I AM’. When we are faced with the biggest, scariest things, we know God is ‘I AM’, the One who is everything we need.
Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: How would we finish this sentence to describe ourselves – I am…? If we’re finding it hard to answer, maybe we can help each other out.
One of the coolest things God says about us is that we belong to Him. The I AM, unchanging God, says we’re part of His family! Let’s think about that as we listen to this verse from Isaiah.
Don’t be afraid, because I have saved you. I have called you by name, and you are mine. (Isaiah 43:1b, NCV)
God asked Moses to work with Him to free the Israelites from slavery. There are so many people in our world who are stuck in other ways too, whether that’s in poverty, prison, or places that are unsafe. Let’s pray for them now.
God, You are the unchanging I AM. We really need You to change some things in our world. We ASK You to set the people free from situations they can’t get out of. Show us how to speak up for them and fight for their freedom, just like Moses did.
As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?
And now, let’s say YES to God together.
Mighty God, You rescued the Israelites out of Egypt and You helped Moses when he was afraid. We say YES to trusting that you are with us too, whenever we are afraid.
After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:
Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Psalm 34:8 (NIVUK)
Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.
Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.
Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
