With Annika
Welcome to Lectio for Families. This week we are exploring how to spend a quiet time with God. Some of the ideas come from 24-7 Prayer’s book, Be Still, a Simple Guide to Quiet Times.

As usual, each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:

In and out.

In and out.

We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Father God, we prepare our hearts to spend a quiet time together with You. As we pause to be still, help us to become just a bit more aware of Your constant love for us today.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

Today we’re REFLECTING on some verses from Psalm 119, which is the longest Psalm in the Bible! In this Psalm the Bible is called ‘Your Word’ – let’s listen out for that phrase.

Read by Annika
Psalm 119:9-11
How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:9-11 (NIVUK)

Let’s imagine hiding something in our hearts. Maybe it seems like a strange hiding place but it also seems like a pretty safe place to keep something. God’s word is so special, so important, to help us learn more about who God is that we need to keep it so close to us and hide it in our hearts. One of the ways we can hide God’s word in our hearts is by remembering our memory verses.

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: What’s the best hiding place we’ve had in a game of hide and seek?

Ask

ASK Prayers

The Bible is this incredible book but it can also be difficult to understand at times or challenging.

Father God, we thank You for the Bible, and we ASK You to help us as we read it. Help us as we try to listen to you and hear what you want to teach us from Your word.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Let’s each think of, or find, a Bible verse that we can give or send to someone today – maybe in person, or maybe we could send it to them in a message?

Father God, we ASK You to give us courage to share the words that are written in Your Bible. We want our friends and family to hear some kind words from You.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Yes

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

Psalm 119:9-11
How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:9-11 (NIVUK)

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

Dear God, thank You for your Word, the Bible. We say YES to hiding it in our hearts by trying to remember it, and we ASK that You would help us.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
