Week: Creativity - David
Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.
We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.
Pause

Creator God, who formed us from dust, breathe in us again. We’re ready for the new things that You want to show us and say to us and even create through us today.

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1 (NIV)
God, help us to remember Your Word.

Today we’re REFLECTING on a life changing encounter that David had with God when he was a young man. God has asked the prophet Samuel to find a new king for Israel and told Samuel that the person he’d chosen was the son of a man called Jesse. Samuel found Jesse and told him to gather his boys so that he could pour oil – which is an ancient sign of Kingship – onto the one that God wanted.

1 Samuel 16: 10-13
Jesse had seven of his sons pass by Samuel. But Samuel said to him, ‘The Lord has not chosen any of these.’
Then he asked Jesse, ‘Are these all the sons you have?’ Jesse answered, ‘I still have the youngest son. He is out taking care of the sheep.’
Samuel said, ‘Send for him. We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.’ So Jesse sent and had his youngest son brought in. He was a fine boy, tanned, and handsome. The Lord said to Samuel, ‘Go, appoint him, because he is the one.’ So Samuel took the container of olive oil and poured it on Jesse’s youngest son to appoint him in front of his brothers. From that day on, the Lord’s Spirit worked in David.
1 Samuel 16: 10-13 (NCV)
David’s Dad didn’t include him when Samuel asked to meet his sons. Perhaps Jesse thought that, as the youngest, David wasn’t important enough for God to choose him.
This story reminds us that God doesn’t overlook anyone – no one is too small or too young or too unimportant for God. God wants to meet with us – just like He met with David – and God wants to include us in His creative plans.
Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: Have we ever been overlooked for something that we really wanted to do? What was it?

David’s encounter with God assured him that no matter how other people treated him, he was very important to God. God feels the same way about us so let’s ASK God help us when we feel left out.
Loving God, we ASK You to fill us with Your Spirit today so we know Your love and peace. Remind us that every one of us is precious to You.
Do we know anybody who seems to get left out of things? Perhaps they don’t have many friends or don’t get picked to join in? Let’s ASK God to help them today.
Loving God, we ASK You to give those who we’re thinking of good friends who will include and encourage them. Help us to play our part in showing them Your love today.

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

And now, let’s say YES to God together.
Loving God, we say YES to trusting that You love us, and believing that You include us in your plans. We want to have new encounters with You this week.

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1 (NIV)

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.
Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.
Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
