Welcome to Lectio for Families. We’re continuing our series based on the book of Psalms and the six practices which are at the heart of Lectio for Families and 24-7 Prayer. This week, we’re focusing on the practice of hospitality.

Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:

In and out.

In and out.

We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

God of hospitality, thank You for inviting us into Your family. As we sit at Your table and taste Your words to us, may they give us all the strength we need.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

Today, we are continuing to REFLECT on what Psalm 91 has to teach us about the hospitality of God. Before we can learn about offering hospitality towards other people, we need to learn more about how to receive God’s hospitality towards us.

Read by Jackson J
Psalm 91:9-12
Yes, because God’s your refuge,
the High God your very own home,
Evil can’t get close to you,
harm can’t get through the door.
He ordered his angels
to guard you wherever you go.
If you stumble, they’ll catch you;
their job is to keep you from falling.
Psalm 91:9-12 (MSG)

The writer of today’s Psalm compares being with God to feeling ‘at home’ – a place where we belong, where we feel loved, where we enjoy ourselves and know that we are safe and secure. And then he says that God orders His angels to guard us wherever we go.

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: What are our favourite things about our home?

Ask

ASK Prayers

In today’s Psalm, Moses describes God as our ‘very own home’.

Loving God, we ASK You to be our home, a safe and secure place where we can truly be ourselves. Thank You for watching over us and protecting us.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Now let’s pray for those who used to follow Jesus and be part of a church family, but have drifted away, or have chosen to walk away from God for some reason.

Father God, we know that there is always space in Your heart for those who turn away from You. You never stop reaching out to them and calling out to them, ‘Come home!’ And so we pray it too – that they will ‘come home’ to You.

Yes

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

Psalm 91:9-12
Yes, because God’s your refuge,
the High God your very own home,
Evil can’t get close to you,
harm can’t get through the door.
He ordered his angels
to guard you wherever you go.
If you stumble, they’ll catch you;
their job is to keep you from falling.
Psalm 91:9-12 (MSG)

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

Loving, welcoming God, we say YES to being and staying at home in Your love.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
