Week: Kindness
As usual, we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.
We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.
Pause

Holy Spirit, You help us grow, each and every day, into who God made us to be. We’re ready to be changed a little bit more by You today.

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

Proverbs 16: 24
Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
Proverbs 16:24 (NLT)
God, help us to remember Your Word.

The book of Proverbs is filled with wise sayings. Today, we’re REFLECTING on one of the many wise things that King Solomon said about kindness.

Proverbs 3:3-4
Don’t ever forget kindness and truth. Wear them like a necklace. Write them on your heart as if on a tablet. Then you will be respected and will please both God and people.
Proverbs 3:3-4 (NCV)
Deep down, most of us like to be liked. We like to be popular at school or at work, or to have lots of followers on social media, or to be known for something special. But what if we were known for kindness? What if, when people talked about us, they said things like, ‘I know her, she’s so kind!’ or ‘I really like him because he’s kind!’
According to Solomon, the best way to be known – the best way to be popular with people and with God – is to be kind and truthful.
Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: Which of our friends or family would we describe as ‘kind’, and why?

Solomon says to ‘wear’ kindness, so let’s take our pens and paper and write the word ‘kind’ and ‘wear’ it as a reminder for the next few days. We could pop it in a pocket, or maybe pin it onto our clothes somewhere?
Holy Spirit, as we wear this prayer, we ASK You to help us grow in kindness. We want to be known for being kind.
Let’s think of someone famous – maybe a TV personality, or a sports star, or an influencer on social media – and pray for them.
Lord Jesus, whatever these people are known for, we ASK You to be with them and speak to them. Help them to remember to be kind and truthful.

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
Proverbs 3:3-4
Don’t ever forget kindness and truth. Wear them like a necklace. Write them on your heart as if on a tablet. Then you will be respected and will please both God and people.
Proverbs 3:3-4 (NCV)
What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

And now, let’s say YES to God together.
Holy Spirit, we say YES to the good fruit that You are growing in our lives. And we say YES to becoming more like Jesus – being kind and true in every way we can.

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:
Proverbs 16: 24
Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
Proverbs 16: 24 (NLT)

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.
Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.
Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
