Discover the ideas behind the 24-7 Prayer Hackathon.

To give you a flavour of what you might be able to contribute to, have a read of the hackathon challenges* below. These are just an initial steer and the scope is deliberately broad. The direction of the challenges will depend on you, your ideas, contributions and skills developing an answer to these questions. You may even be inspired with an idea of your own.

*Please note these ideas are subject to change.

Help Me Pray

Make Prayer More Interactive

How might we create a rich, interactive digital prayer experience that goes beyond reading, listening and tapping “next”?

Reimagine the Prayer Room

FAQs

What do I need to bring?

We recommend bringing your laptop, notebook, water bottle, and most importantly your innovative ideas to contribute to the projects we’ll be working on. If you’re staying overnight, bedding will be provided but please bring a towel.

What will 24-7 Prayer provide?

We will provide a collaborative workspace, good Wi-Fi and power, presentation facilities, food and refreshments.

How much does it cost to come?

We are grateful for you giving your time to help 24-7 Prayer. Therefore, taking part in the Hackathon is free. We ask you to book a ticket so that we can understand ahead of time what kind of talent we are gathering together. Your ticket also covers free accommodation at the venue (available on a first come first served basis) and meals throughout so that we can look after you properly for the duration of the event.

Do you need to code to be part of the Hackathon?

No. While we certainly hope to attract a number of developers for this event, we need other skills in the room too! Designers, project managers, marketers and others can all contribute.

How much experience do I need?

We hope the teams will be mixed, from novices to experienced builders. Whatever your experience, you can learn by building alongside others.

I am not based in Surrey, can I still come?

Absolutely. Accommodation options are available on-site and nearby.

I cannot come for the whole event, can I come for some of it or one day?

The whole event is recommended. It is possible to arrive late or leave early, but attending only one day is not recommended.

Can I attend remotely?

The hackathon will be an in-person event. Unfortunately, this means remote attendance will not be possible.

I am under 18, can I come?

Unfortunately, this event is only for those aged 18 and over.

How will I know which hackathon challenge I will be working on?

You get to choose. Hackathon challenges are shared beforehand and project leads present them on Tuesday.

Can I code on my own?

Yes, although the hackathon is collaborative by nature and joining a team is encouraged.

Can I use AI or a particular tool?

Yes! We encourage you to use whatever tooling, including AI, that will help you get the most out of this event. We will have some tools on hand to aid you as well.

How are awards given?

There is a people’s choice award and a judges’ award. Team members receive trophies for awards won.

I have an idea, can I bring a challenge?

For this pilot event, we will be exclusively working on 24-7 Prayer specific challenges. However, the scope on this is wide, and we encourage you to bring your big picture thinking to whichever challenge you choose to work on.

Will food be provided?

Yes. All meals, snacks and soft drinks are provided during the event.

Is overnight accommodation provided?

Yes. Basic shared sleeping rooms are available free of charge. Please note there are a limited number of beds available in shared rooms. These will be allocated on a first come basis

Will everybody work through the night?

No. Overnight work is optional and not required for teams to be successful.

Can you recommend any off-site accommodation?

If for any reason you don’t want to stay at Waverley Abbey, you are welcome to book your own elsewhere. There is plenty of nearby accommodation, including Premier Inn.

How do I get to the venue?

The simplest route is to travel to Waverley Abbey, Waverley Lane, Farnham GU9 8EP, either by driving or by taking a train to Farnham and a short taxi (6 mins) or bus (the 46) to the abbey.

Is parking available?

Yes. There is a small car park at the abbey near the entrance off Waverley Lane.

Is it only for Christians?

In short, no. Everyone is welcome. 24-7 Prayer is an interdenominational prayer movement. As such, corporate prayer will be a significant part of this event. You will not be pressured to take part in this if you don’t want to, but participants should be comfortable to support and uphold 24-7 Prayer’s missional aims and Christian values.

Who are 24-7 Prayer?

24-7 Prayer exists to revive the church and rewire the culture through an international movement and communities of non-stop prayer, mission and justice. We started in 1999, when a simple student-led prayer vigil went viral and groups all over the world joined in to pray. Now, over two decades later, thousands of communities have taken part in 24-7 Prayer in churches, communities and cities in over half the countries on earth.

Are there any conditions to taking part?

Yes. Everyone, whether taking part, leading a challenge, volunteering, or speaking, is asked to follow our Conditions of Participation. It covers what we expect, what is not acceptable, and what to do if something goes wrong. In summary, be respectful of others and demonstrate Christlikeness in humility and kindness. See full Conditions of Participation linked on the 'Get Involved' or 'About' tabs. You will be required to agree to this Conditions of Participation before the event.

I have a question that is not answered here, how do I get in touch?

About

Join us for a unique gathering of product owners, developers, designers, and innovators as we come together to tackle real challenges in helping people grow deeper in their prayer life.

Through a collaborative hackathon, we’ll combine creativity, technology, and user-centred thinking to explore new ways of supporting prayer in today’s world.

Taking place on the evening of 10 November and throughout 11 November at the beautiful Waverley Abbey House, Farnham, this summit offers a truly inspiring setting. Situated on a site that has hosted a praying presence for over 1,000 years, Waverley Abbey provides the perfect environment to imagine, create, and build solutions that could impact prayer for generations to come.

Together, we’ll innovate, prototype, and collaborate in service of a simple but profound mission: helping more people encounter Jesus through prayer.

Take a look at the hackathon challenges you’ll be working on in the Get Involved tab.

Should you wish to be a part of this event you will need to abide by our Conditions of Participation that can be found here.
