Week: Learning - Solomon
Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.
We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.
Pause

Holy Spirit, You are the best teacher. As we explore the Bible and listen to You, please help us to understand more about You, and draw closer to You.

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

John 14:26
But the Helper will teach you everything and will cause you to remember all that I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name.
John 14:26 (NCV)
God, help us to remember Your Word.

Solomon was the son of King David, and today we’re REFLECTING on an encounter that Solomon had with God in a dream.

2 Chronicles 1:7-10
That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, ‘Ask for whatever you want me to give you.’ Solomon answered, ‘You have been very kind to my father David, and you have made me king in his place. Now, Lord God, may your promise to my father David come true. You have made me king of a people who are as many as the dust of the earth. Now give me wisdom and knowledge so I can lead these people in the right way, because no one can rule them without your help.’
2 Chronicles 1:7-10 (NCV)
Solomon could have asked for vast riches. He could have asked to be the most popular king in the world. He could have asked for power to conquer other nations. But instead, he asked for something that would help him be the best king he could be for God’s people – he asked for God’s help and for wisdom to lead.
Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: If God said to us, ‘ask for whatever you want me to give you’, what would we say?

And now, we ASK God to help us and others…
Father God, we ASK You to give us wisdom and understanding, so that we, like Solomon, can help and support others.
Solomon was in a position of authority. He was king over a large nation. Let’s think of those who are in positions of authority in our nation as we pray.
Heavenly Father, we know that the best wisdom and understanding comes from You. We ASK that You would give wisdom to the leaders of our country. Help them to use their authority wisely to help and support others in need.

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

And now, let’s say YES to God together.
Father God, we tend to rely on our own ideas, thoughts and opinions perhaps a little too much. Today we say YES to seeking first Your wisdom in our lives.

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:
John 14:26
But the Helper will teach you everything and will cause you to remember all that I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name.
John 14:26 (NCV)

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.
Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.
Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
