Sasha Phil
With Sasha and Phil
Welcome to Lectio for Families. We are continuing with our ‘Jesus’ series, and this week, we are focusing on what happened after Jesus’ death on the cross, because His death wasn’t the end of the story.

Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Lord Jesus, as we spend these few minutes together, we open our eyes to see what You’re doing, our ears to hear what You’re saying, and our hearts to receive what You want to give to us today.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

Today, we’re REFLECTING on what the apostle Paul says that Jesus is doing right now.

Read by Sasha
Romans 8:34, 38-39
Christ Jesus who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
…I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:34b, 38-39 (NIVUK)

What an incredible thought! Jesus is interceding for us – He’s praying for us!

In John’s Gospel, he lists some of the things that Jesus prays about; that God would keep us safe (17:11), that we would be united with other people (17:11), that we would be filled with joy (17:13), even though we have difficult times, that we would be kept safe from the devil (17:15), that God would teach us and change us (17:17), and that we would be deeply connected with Jesus and with His Father (17:21).

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: What would we like Jesus to be praying for us today?

Ask

ASK Prayers

And now let’s ASK God to help us and others.

Lord Jesus, You know us better than we know ourselves. You know what we would like You to be praying for us, but You also know what we really need. Thank You for praying and interceding for us.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

In John’s Gospel, Jesus prays that those who believe in Him would be one, that we would be united and not divided.

Lord Jesus, we pray for those who believe in You – Your Church around the world. Help us to remember that we are all part of one body. Help us to love one another in such a way that the world sees You amongst us.

Yes

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

Lord Jesus, You were resurrected – brought back to life – by God, and now You are alive! We say YES to receiving Your life and Your love, knowing that nothing, absolutely nothing, can separate us from You.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
