LAST NIGHT AT MIDNIGHT I drove to the 24-7 prayer room
here in Chichester and found myself reflecting on the journey
of the past five years... If you'd told me back then that our little
prayer room was preparing to self-seed itself into 63 nations I'd

have laughed! And yet God really has done all this and more: opening doors into Parliament, into the media, into nightclubs, serene cathedrals and – best of all - into the lives of people who don’t know Jesus.
It happened again today... A Media Studies student called Tom, who claimed to have had 'just enough God at

school to put him off for life,’ opened the door to Jesus today as we prayed. “Everyone broke into the most fantastic cheer that our prayer

room has ever heard,” said Carla Trundle. “People, who'd been in tears over their own problems moments earlier, started encouraging the new member of our family with bible verses, before worshipping God at the top of their voices. It was one of those moments that remind me of what's so great about 24-7 prayer.”

At a time when so many people are worried about the spiritual and moral health of this generation, it's exciting to remember that thousands of young people are praying as never before and hundreds are stepping forward to become answers to their own prayers in mission and social action.

For their sake we are appealing for urgent help...

We're convinced that prayer really is the key to releasing the purposes of God in this generation. If you agree, please consider supporting the 24-7 Prayer movement with a donation as we look forward to the next five years.

Global Prayer Explosion... DAWN IN HERRNHUT

prayer once again, inspired by the Moravian 24-7 movement which exploded from this village 300 years ago. For instance, Nadine from South Africa described 24-7 prayer rooms filled with young people, multiplying across her nation. She also reminded us that it had been Moravian missionaries who first took the gospel to parts of South Africa, propelled out from a 24-7 prayer meeting in the very place in which we were sitting!
|
Three hundred years later, we're discovering that prayer still has that same power to propel us out into dark and surprising places, as a recent report from our team in Ibiza makes clear...

Standing next to a man wearing a skirt, high-heels and a bright red wig, at a nightclub on the Spanish island of Ibiza last month, Brian Heasley (left) had reason to reflect that God had sent him to a very unusual mission field indeed. But even transvestites need Jesus and the call to establish a long-term missionary presence for 24-7 on the island had been undeniable.
That’s why, six months ago, Brian resigned from a safe pastorate in Norfolk, England and moved his young family to live amidst the bars, the brothels and clubs of San Antonio, Ibiza. Brian and Tracy Heasley are now pioneer missionaries in one of the most hedonistic places in the world. Their story is one of many signs that 24-7 is growing up and putting down roots for long-term effectiveness.
Everyone knows that 24-7 is about prayer... But 24-7 is also about people; people like Carla in England, Nadine in South Africa and the Heasley family in Ibiza. It's about people like Susanna (left) who is currently mobilising a year of unbroken prayer in Switzerland, unprecedented in the nation's history.
It's about guys like Ian (left) who recently gave up a safe salary at the age of 49 in order to 'live by faith', freeing up time to play his part in the 24-7 explosion! And it's about those who are hurting and lost like the man in the red wig in Ibiza and others like Tom, who once gave up on God and yet just gave in to God in a funny little prayer room on the south coast of England.

As you can imagine, behind the scenes, a great deal of work goes on to resource hundreds of prayer rooms whilst supporting missionaries and estab-

lishing Boiler Room communities (including one in central London on the site of John Wesley's Foundry and another in John Lennon's Strawberry Fields - the former children's home in Liverpool that inspired him to write the famous song).
To respond to such opportunities, 24-7 has had to get organised over recent years. Accordingly we now have offices and charitable / non-profit status in a number of countries. You can view our Income & Expenditure charts here. However (and you'd better sit down for this!) the entire 24-7 Prayer movement currently operates internationally on a smaller annual budget than that of an average local church. It's a situation that has been possible through immense sacrifice and great faith, but it has to change as we look to the next five years and lay foundations for the future.

Like a number of other leaders in the 24-7 community, I personally don't take a penny out of the budget. It's the greatest privilege of my life to be involved in a genuine movement of the Spirit that is making a difference every minute of every day in the lives of real people like Brian and Nadine, Tom and perhaps even the man in the red wig.
Day by day we sense a growing urgency in this call to prayer. As we turn to face the next five years, would you come on the journey with us? We need those who will invest their prayers, their money and even themselves into the future of this movement. Please help us celebrate the faithfulness of God with a birthday gift to 24-7.
Thank you for being part of this,
Pete Greig | |
