24-7prayer for Parliament and Whitehall

Published: May 20th, 2005

The following press release was released by the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship last week, and went out to thousands of UK churches and organisations;

"Parliament & Whitehall 24-7 prayer week 19th – 26th June 2005

The Parliamentary Christian Fellowship, the Whitehall Network and 24-7 prayer invite you to join in with an exciting week of prayer for Parliament and Whitehall, at an important time in the UK.

From Sunday 19th June until Sunday 26th June, an unprecedented number of prayer gatherings (large and small) will take place across the Parliament estate and Whitehall departments. Other activities will include; daily prayer-walking, evening prayer and worship events in local churches, churches nationwide and globally praying through-the-night … and lots more!

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7v14

This event is supported  by MPs and Peers from each of the major political parties and, as such, all Christians are warmly welcome to get involved – regardless of their own personal political viewpoint.

Steve Webb MP has said, "The Bible urges us to pray for those in authority, and the 24/7 week of prayer is a fantastic opportunity for us to get together and do just this at the start of a brand new Parliamentary term. As the chair of this year's National Prayer Breakfast in Westminster, I feel that 2005 is a significant year of prayer for Parliament and I warmly encourage you to get involved."
