This year’s 24-7 Eurogathering is a rallying cry to the 24-7 Family, to the tribes scattered across Europe and beyond. And it’s a call to those at the edges looking for a way in and a place to belong. To the Scandinavians, to the Iberians, the Slavs and the Germans. To the Greeks, the Russians, the Celts and the Britons; to all the tribes from Portugal to Russia and from Iceland to Turkey: It’s time to stand up!

The challenge of Europe, the worlds first post-Christian continent, is a big one. The gospel has been rejected and the church side-lined; yet we know that Jesus hasn’t given up, the church has a future, He is victorious and will be glorified through ALL the earth.

Over 10 years ago Pete Greig had a vision whilst standing on the cliffs in Portugal at the most southwesterly point in Europe:

‘From where I stood, the continent began with a handful of rocks and a small green tent, but beyond that I could imagine Portugal and Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy and Germany eventually becoming Russia, China and the Indian sub-continent.

Towards nation after nation I raised my hands and began to pray out loud for each one by name. And that was when it happened. First my scalp began to tingle and an electric current pulsed down my spine, again and again, physically shaking my body. Nothing like this had ever happened to me before… I could hear a buzzing clicking sound overhead as if an electric pylon was short circuiting, and I seriously wondered if I was about to get fried. As these strange sensations continued I received a vision. My eyes were open, but I could see with absolute clarity before me the different countries laid out like an atlas and from each one a faceless army of young people was rising out of the page, crowds of them in every nation awaiting orders.’ – Extract from Red Moon Rising by Pete Greig

CALL - When Jesus called Simon and Andrew, he told them ‘Come, follow me’ They stood up, left their nets and followed Jesus.
Put down what you’re doing. It's time to stand up.

CHANGE - Jesus met a crippled man by the pool who had no one to help him into the waters. Jesus said “Get up, pick up your mat and walk.”
Jesus wants to tackle a European mindset that cripples faith. It’s time to stand up.

CONFLICT - Paul writes to the emerging church in Ephesus who faced attack and persecution “…when you’ve done everything you can, stand firm”.
Europe is under assault the church has been on the defence. It’s time to stand up.

This year we are sounding a rallying cry to the tribes of Europe to gather together in Frankfurt from 6th – 9th October to pray and call out to God for our continent. We will be echoing God's call to prayer, mission and justice and we need you to join us with your tribe, church, community and friends.

24-7 Prayer has secured an amazing venue on the banks of the river Maine in central Frankfurt where we will gather together. The jugendherberge (youth hostel) is where we will meet and also where we hope to accommodate most people, taking advantage of the restaurant facilities as well means that we’re keeping the cost to a minimum in order to get as many people there as we possibly can. This also means we get to spend more time together and less time traversing the city!
