With Phil and Bea
Welcome to Lectio for Families. We’re continuing our series focusing on what the writers of the letters in the New Testament said about the six practices at the heart of Lectio for Families and 24-7 Prayer. This week we are focusing on the practice of Creativity.

Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Creator God, You formed us from dust, breathe in us again. We’re ready for the new things that You want to show us and say to us and even create through us today.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

Today, we are REFLECTING on yet another creative way that we can show love to God and one another.

Read by Bea
Ephesians 5:19-20
Speak to each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord. Always give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:19-20 (NCV)

Music and singing play an important part in our lives. We sometimes sing songs together in school. We sometimes sing songs at sporting events. We sing songs at special celebrations, like birthdays. Singing songs together can connect people, and they are a way for us to express how we feel too. And here, in today’s Bible passage, Paul encourages us to sing songs to one another and to God, making music in our hearts.

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: If we could instantly learn a musical instrument, what would it be and why?

Ask

ASK Prayers

Paul encourages us to sing songs to one another. But here’s something amazing – in the book of Zephaniah (3:17b, NCV) it says that God sings over us too. It says, ‘He will rejoice over you. You will rest in his love; he will sing and be joyful about you.’

Loving God, help us to hear what You are singing over us today.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Let’s pray for those who write songs and create music, and those who lead us in worship and singing in our churches too.

Creator God, we ASK You to inspire song-writers and musicians to make music that can help us all connect with You.

If we love song-writing or music, why not try writing a song today?

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Yes

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and tell each other

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

We say YES God, we will make music in our hearts… and out loud too!

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
