Week: Holy Spirit Adventures
Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.
We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.
Pause
Holy Spirit, like the disciples in the upper room on the day of Pentecost, we’re patiently waiting for You to fill us with Your power and with Your presence. We’re ready for You to send us on new adventures.
We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:
Read by Eli
2 Corinthians 3:17
The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17 (NCV)
God, help us to remember Your Word.
Today we’re REFLECTING on the final few verses in the book of Acts.
Read by Eli
Acts 28:30-31
Paul stayed two full years in his own rented house and welcomed all people who came to visit him. He boldly preached about the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ, and no one stopped him.
Acts 28:30-31 (NCV)
Over the past few weeks, we have been on an incredible Holy Spirit Adventure through the book of Acts. We’ve heard about the Holy Spirit being poured out on the early followers of Jesus, people being healed and miracles happening, and people hearing about Jesus and becoming Christians. We’ve heard about Saul’s life being completely changed (including his name!) when he encountered Jesus, about the early church sending missionaries to spread the good news about Jesus to far-off places, and about Paul’s adventures too – being arrested (more than once), thrown in prison (more than once), getting shipwrecked, and so much more. It really has been an adventure!
But the Holy Spirit’s adventures don’t end here. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit is also with us, in us and working through us, so let’s be ready for some Holy Spirit Adventures in our lives too!
Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: What have been some of our favourite moments from this Holy Spirit Adventures series? What stories can we remember?
And now, let’s ASK God to help us and others.
Holy Spirit, we’ve heard about the part you’ve played in the book of Acts – changing lives, healing people, guiding Jesus’ followers to new places, performing miracles. We ASK you to come and be with us too – lead us on some new adventures.
Over the last few weeks we’ve heard that thousands of people learned about Jesus and were transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
And so, Holy Spirit, we ASK you to do the same in our lives, in our church’s life, in our schools and workplaces and in our local community. We ASK that more and more people would meet Jesus and be transformed by God’s love for them.
As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
Acts 28:30-31
Paul stayed two full years in his own rented house and welcomed all people who came to visit him. He boldly preached about the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ, and no one stopped him.
Acts 28:30-31 (NCV)
What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?
And now, let’s say YES to God together.
Today, we simply say again YES to going on Holy Spirit adventures. YES, YES, YES… Help us to be ready to follow you, Holy Spirit, wherever you want to lead us, however you want us to live.
After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:
2 Corinthians 3:17
The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17 (NCV)
Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.
Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.
Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
