With Phil and Kumi
Welcome to Lectio for Families. In the Bible, we’re told that God created us to worship him. This week we’ll be exploring what that means and thinking about how and why we worship.

Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:

In and out.

In and out.

We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Father God, thank You that as we draw close to You, You promise to draw close to us. We need You today. Our hearts are ready. Help us to hear Your voice.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

Today, we’re REFLECTING on a time when Jesus met a group of ten men. Let’s hear what happened.

Read by Kumi
Luke 17:11-19
As he entered a village, ten men, all lepers, met him. They kept their distance but raised their voices, calling out, ‘Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!’
Taking a good look at them, he said, ‘Go, show yourselves to the priests.’
They went, and while still on their way, became clean. One of them, when he realized that he was healed, turned around and came back, shouting his gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus’ feet, so grateful. He couldn’t thank him enough – and he was a Samaritan.
Jesus said, ‘Were not ten healed? Where are the nine? Can none be found to come back and give glory to God except this outsider?’ Then he said to him, ‘Get up. On your way. Your faith has healed and saved you.’
Luke 17:12-19 (MSG)

Saying ‘thank You’ is a key part of our worship. In today’s story, Jesus healed ten men from a painful skin condition called leprosy – but only one of the men remembered to thank Him. The others ran off, so excited that they got a bit carried away and forgot about Jesus. The interesting thing is that Jesus really did notice.

Do we ever forget to say ‘thank You’? God wants us to remember all the ways He provides for us, so He loves it when we remember to stop and take a moment to thank Him.

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: What do we feel thankful for today?

Ask

ASK Prayers

And now let’s ASK God to help us to remember to thank Him for the things He does for us each day.

Father God, help us to be a thankful family. We give our hearts to You. Fill them with gratitude. Help us to appreciate what You do for us and all You have given us and not take it for granted.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Let’s think about those in the world who are still suffering with leprosy and other painful conditions.

Please God, we ASK you to bring your healing to those who are sick and hurting. We pray for all the organisations around the world who are caring for those still suffering with leprosy. Give them the strength and the resources to bring about real change.

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

Creative God, we choose to worship you today. We say YES to seeing all of the great gifts we have received from You and to being thankful.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
