With Phil and Kumi
Welcome to Lectio for Families. This week, we’ve been exploring what it means to have been made to worship. But today is the Sabbath, so we’re taking a break from our regular pattern to pray a little differently.
The Bible tells the story of God making the Universe and everything in it in six days. Every Sunday, we remember the Sabbath, when God rested on the seventh day and enjoyed everything that had been made.

Pause

As usual, we start by pausing and taking a deep breath:

In and out.

In and out.

We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Reflect

Bible Reading

Let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit may want to say to us today from Psalm 100.

Read by Kumi
Psalm 100
On your feet now – applaud God!
Bring a gift of laughter,
sing yourselves into his presence.
Know this: God is God, and God, God.
He made us; we didn’t make him.
We’re his people, his well-tended sheep.
Enter with the password: “Thank you!”
Make yourselves at home, talking praise.
Thank him. Worship him.
For God is sheer beauty,
all-generous in love,
loyal always and ever.
Psalm 100 (MSG)

Ask

ASK Prayers

Singing is one of the ways that we worship God. In churches all around the world today, people will sing songs of worship to God together. As we sing with others, it reminds us that we are one family and that we worship one God.

Pause

Father, we thank You for the gifts of music and singing. Thank You that they are powerful. They can help us to feel happy, or strong, or quiet and reflective. Thank You that music helps connect our hearts to You.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Lord Jesus, You are worthy of every song we could ever sing! Help us to use our voices to remember Your love and goodness.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Holy Spirit, You are the one who inspires and changes us. Fill each one of us again today, and give us a passion for singing and worshipping Jesus.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Let’s press pause and talk about our Sabbath question which is: As our week comes to an end, what was good about it – what are we thankful for? It could be something big or small.

If we have a bit of time after finishing Lectio for Families, maybe we could choose a worship song to sing along with as a way of expressing our thanks to God.

Memory Verse

As we finish our time together, let’s say this week’s amazing memory verse one last time:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Sabbath Blessing

May this Sabbath bring rest and joy to our hearts and our homes.
May today be a little less go, go, go, and a little more slow… slow… slow…
May we care less about things, and care more for people.
As we relax in God’s love, may we take time to listen and remember that we are all God’s children.
