Week: Jesus in the Old Testament
Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.
We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.
Pause

Jesus, as we spend these few minutes together, we open our eyes to see what You’re doing, our ears to hear what You’re saying, and our hearts to receive what You want to give to us today.

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8 (NCV)
God, help us to remember Your Word.

Shortly after Jesus had died and been resurrected, two of His friends were walking along a road to a city called Emmaus. Jesus appeared beside them, but they didn’t recognise it was Him at first. Today we’re REFLECTING on how Jesus helped them to understand what had happened.

Luke 24:25-27
Then Jesus said to them, ‘You are foolish and slow to believe everything the prophets said. They said that the Christ must suffer these things before he enters his glory.’ Then starting with what Moses and all the prophets had said about him, Jesus began to explain everything that had been written about himself in the Scriptures.
Luke 24:25-27 (NCV)
Jesus’ friends didn’t fully understand what the Old Testament prophets had said about Him. Jesus knew the particular things that they were struggling with, so He helped them to understand by explaining things that had been written about Him before He was even born. ‘Jesus explaining about Jesus’ must have been the best Bible study ever! He was the perfect teacher.
Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: If we went for a walk with Jesus, like these two friends, what would we want to talk with Him about?

And now, let’s ASK God to help us and others.
Jesus, as we begin this week, we ASK You to send Your Spirit to walk alongside us and help us understand more of who You are.
There are lots of people who are a bit like the two friends on the road to Emmaus – they know about Jesus, but they don’t realise that Jesus is actually walking with them, and maybe even talking with them.
Lord Jesus, as we think of people like this, we ASK that You would open their eyes to see You a bit more clearly – help them realise that You are with them.

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

And now, let’s say YES to God together.
Lord Jesus, we say YES to You opening our eyes so that we can see You more clearly, and opening our hearts so that we can know You more deeply.

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8 (NCV)

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.
Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.
Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
