Week: Jesus in the Old Testament
Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.
We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.
Pause

Jesus, as we spend these few minutes together, we open our eyes to see what You’re doing, our ears to hear what You’re saying, and our hearts to receive what You want to give to us today.

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8 (NCV)
God, help us to remember Your Word.

Today, we’re REFLECTING on part of a Psalm written by David where he talks about his ‘Lord’.
Read by Bea
Psalm 110:1-3
The Lord said to my Lord,
‘Sit by me at my right side
until I put your enemies under your control.’
The Lord will enlarge your kingdom beyond Jerusalem,
and you will rule over your enemies.
Your people will join you on your day of battle.
You have been dressed in holiness from birth;
you have the freshness of a child.
Psalm 110:1-3 (NCV)
In the original Hebrew language, the first line of this Psalm – ‘the Lord said to my Lord’ – would actually say, ‘Yahweh said to Adonai’. Both of these are names for God, and David is using the name ‘Yahweh’ to describe God the Father, and the word ‘Adonai’ to describe the Messiah, Jesus. David knew that when the Messiah came, He would be ‘the Lord’ – the boss of everything! And David calls this Messiah ‘my Lord’. It’s like David is saying, ‘Jesus is God, and He’s my boss too’.
Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: If we were ‘the boss’ of our house for a day, what fun rules would we make?

And now, let’s ASK God to help us and others.
Jesus, You are Adonai, our Lord, the boss of our lives. We ASK for Your help as we try to follow Your example, by sharing Your love with others.
Jesus is the best kind of boss we could ever have – when He’s in charge, things go well. Let’s think of those who are ‘in charge of things’ in our schools, our communities, or even in our nations.
Lord Jesus, we ASK You to help those who are in charge of things that affect our lives. Give them wisdom to know what is right, compassion to understand other people, and courage to make good decisions. Speak to them and lead them today.

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
Psalm 110:1-3
The Lord said to my Lord,
‘Sit by me at my right side
until I put your enemies under your control.’
The Lord will enlarge your kingdom beyond Jerusalem,
and you will rule over your enemies.
Your people will join you on your day of battle.
You have been dressed in holiness from birth;
you have the freshness of a child.
Psalm 110:1-3 (NCV)
What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

And now, let’s say YES to God together.
Lord Jesus, we say YES to You being the boss of our lives. You’re in charge – we trust You and we will follow You.

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8 (NCV)

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.
Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.
Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
