Week: Global Week of Prayer
As always, each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.
Let’s start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.
Pause
Our Father in heaven, reveal who you are. Set the world right. May your kingdom come and what you want be done in us and in our nation today. (Matthew 6:9-10, MSG & NCV)
We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:
Read by Max
1 John 5:14
And this is the boldness we have in God’s presence: that if we ask God for anything that agrees with what he wants, he hears us.
1 John 5:14 (NCV)
God, help us to remember Your Word.
Today, we’re REFLECTING on some challenging words from the prophet Micah.
Read by Max
Micah 6:8
The Lord has told you, human, what is good;
he has told you what he wants from you:
to do what is right to other people,
love being kind to others,
and live humbly, obeying your God.
Micah 6:8 (NCV)
Micah says that God’s people must follow God’s priorities, and then he lists three of them, very simply; Do what is right to other people. Be kind. And live humbly with God, which means listening to God, learning from God and doing what God says.
Hundreds of years later, Jesus says something similar when He sums up all of God’s priorities like this; ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ (Matthew 22:37,39)
Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: What did someone do for us recently that was kind?
Thinking back to the three things that Micah says God wants from us, which are we good at? And which would we like to be better at? Let’s pray about this now.
Father God, we ASK You to help us to do what is right to, and for, other people.
Lord Jesus, we ASK You to help us to be kind – to love people the way that You do.
And Holy Spirit, we ASK You to help us to be humble – to listen and learn more about God’s ways, and to do what God says too.
Let’s think of a local project that our church or other churches are running to ‘do what is right to, or for, people’. Maybe it’s a Food Bank or a homelessness project or an after-school programme for children, or something else.
Loving God, we ASK You to be with those who are running these projects. Give them all that they need to care for the people that they are working with. And fill them with Your Holy Spirit.
As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
Micah 6:8
The Lord has told you, human, what is good;
he has told you what he wants from you:
to do what is right to other people,
love being kind to others,
and live humbly, obeying your God.
Micah 6:8 (NCV)
What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?
And now, let’s say YES to God together, using words from Ezekial’s vision.
Father God, we say YES to what Micah said about how You want us to live. Show us how we can do the right thing for someone over the next few days, or be kind to them. Show us how we can demonstrate Your love in really simple ways.
After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:
1 John 5:14
And this is the boldness we have in God’s presence: that if we ask God for anything that agrees with what he wants, he hears us.
1 John 5:14 (NCV)
Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.
Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.
Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
