With Carla and Max
Welcome to Lectio for Families. This week, as part of the Global Week of Prayer, we are joining with Christians around the world to pray that God’s greatness would be known everywhere.

As always, each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

Let’s start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Our Father in heaven, reveal who you are. Set the world right. May your kingdom come and what you want be done in us and in our nation today. (Matthew 6:9-10, MSG & NCV)

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

While Moses climbed to the top of Mount Sinai to talk with God, the rest of the Israelites grew impatient, so they made themselves an idol – a golden calf – to worship instead of God. God saw this and told Moses that He wouldn’t go with the Israelites any longer. Today, we’re REFLECTING on what happened next.

Read by Max
Exodus 33:15-17
Then Moses said to [the Lord], ‘If you yourself don’t go with us, then don’t send us away from this place. If you don’t go with us, no one will know that you are pleased with me and with your people. These people and I will be no different from any other people on earth.’
Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘I will do what you ask, because I know you very well, and I am pleased with you.’
Exodus 33:15-17 (NCV)

Moses wanted God to be with him and the rest of the Israelites – he wanted God to go with them, wherever they went. Even if all of their prayers were answered and everything went well for them, none of this would matter if God wasn’t with them.

Going to church. Being kind to people. Being generous. Reading our Bibles and praying. All of these things are great, but the only thing that really matters and makes a difference in our lives is God’s presence – God being with us.

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: Who haven’t we seen for a while that we would really like to be with?

Ask

ASK Prayers

And now, let’s ASK God to be with us and others that we know too.

Father God, thank you that You are with us, right now. We ASK You to help us to be more aware of Your presence with us over the next few days. Open our eyes to see You more, and our ears to hear You more.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

And Father God, we pray for our church community too. We ASK for Your presence to be with us and go with us, wherever we are, so that other people will see the difference in us and want to know more about You.

Yes

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and tell each other

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together, using words from Ezekial’s vision.

Loving God, like Moses, we say YES, we want to be in Your presence, more than anything else. Help us to carry Your presence to other people too.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
