With Phil and Bea
Welcome to Lectio for Families. We’re continuing our series focusing on what the writers of the letters in the New Testament said about the six practices at the heart of Lectio for Families and 24-7 Prayer. This week we are focusing on the practice of Creativity.

Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:
In and out.
In and out.
We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Creator God, You formed us from dust, breathe in us again. We’re ready for the new things that You want to show us and say to us and even create through us today.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

Paul loves to use different pictures to help us understand our relationship with God and how God works in and through us. Today, we are reflecting on another few pictures that describe how God sees us.

Read by Bea
1 Corinthians 3:9,11,16
We are God’s workers, working together; you are like God’s farm, God’s house… The foundation that has already been laid is Jesus Christ, and no one can lay down any other foundation… Don’t you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?
1 Corinthians 3:9,11,16 (NCV)

The passage describes us as God’s farm, God’s house, and God’s temple – three different kinds of buildings, all with different functions. A farm is full of life and growth, a house is our place of safety, and a temple was a place where God lived. When God builds in our lives, He promises to help us grow, to keep us safe and to be with us always.

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: Let’s think of some different buildings that we’ve been in. What’s the most unusual one we can think of?

Ask

ASK Prayers

Paul says that we are God’s house – God makes His home in us, and as He lives in us, He slowly changes our lives from the inside-out.

Loving God, we ASK You to keep building new things in us, with us and through us. Keep changing us, making us more like Jesus.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

The Bible tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8b). Everything that God builds in and through our lives, and in the world too, He builds with love. It’s like the bricks he builds with are made of love.

Creator God, keep building love into our lives and our communities. We need more love! We ASK You to show us how we can build with love too, especially in our homes and schools and workplaces.

Yes

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

1 Corinthians 3: 9,11,16
We are God’s workers, working together; you are like God’s farm, God’s house… The foundation that has already been laid is Jesus Christ, and no one can lay down any other foundation… Don’t you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?
1 Corinthians 3:9,11,16 (NCV)

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

Loving God, we say YES to all that You are building in our lives.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
