Unathi Eli
With Unathi and Eli
Welcome to Lectio for Families. This week we are continuing our ‘Holy Spirit Adventures’ series. During this series we are reading and praying our way through the book of Acts, which is packed with stories about what the Holy Spirit did in and through Jesus’ followers after He had gone to Heaven.

Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:

In and out.

In and out.

We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Holy Spirit, like the disciples in the upper room on the day of Pentecost, we’re patiently waiting for You to fill us with Your power and with Your presence. We’re ready for You to send us on new adventures.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

The religious leaders were upset with Paul and they didn’t like that he was talking with people about Jesus. Some of them even wanted to kill him! Today we’re REFLECTING on what happened when Paul was sent to the Roman Governor, Felix.

Read by Eli
Acts 24:11-14
[Paul said to Felix] ‘You can learn for yourself that I went to worship in Jerusalem only twelve days ago. Those who are accusing me did not find me arguing with anyone in the Temple or stirring up the people in the synagogues or in the city. They cannot prove the things they are saying against me now. But I will tell you this: I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way of Jesus. The others say that the Way of Jesus is not the right way.’
Acts 24:11-14 (NCV)

Felix was the Governor of Judea and Samaria, which means that he was a very important person. And Felix was known for being a harsh judge, meaning that he often dealt severely with anyone disturbing the peace. But when Paul was sent to Felix to explain his behaviour, Paul wasn’t afraid. Instead, he was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke boldly about his faith in Jesus, as he had done so many times before.

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: Who’s the most important person that we’ve ever seen or met? If we talked with them, what did we talk about?

Ask

ASK Prayers

And now, let’s ASK God to help us and others.

Holy Spirit, we ASK you to fill us and give us boldness to talk about Jesus whenever we have an opportunity, just like You did with Paul.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Let’s pray especially for Christians who feel like they are the only Christian in their class at school or University or work. If we know someone who feels like (maybe it’s us?) let’s hold them in our minds and hearts now.

Holy Spirit, we ASK you to be with them. Fill them with your presence. We ASK you to give them boldness to talk about Jesus whenever they have the opportunity, and give them the best words to say too.

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Yes

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

What word or phrase stood out from today’s Bible verses?

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and tell each other

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

Holy Spirit, we say YES to going on adventures with You. We open our hearts and our lives to receive you again – fill us up, Holy Spirit. We say YES to being bold, courageous followers of Jesus.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
