Lectio 365

Lectio 365 is a free daily devotional app that helps you pray the Bible every day.

With the Lectio 365 app you pray the Bible by meditating on the scriptures and asking God to speak through them. This is a sustainable and life-giving model of spiritual formation and prayer for ordinary people. Jesus and his early followers paused to pray three times a day, and you can join in with this ancient rhythm and pray like Jesus did, with three short prayer times each day, easily accessible on your phone.

When you pause in his presence, you create space for peace in a busy and complicated world.

Landscapes of Lent

As we jounrey through Lent we are preparing ourselves to remember the death and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ by reflecting on the theme of wilderness in the Bible. Each week we will pray through the wilderness experience of a person or community noticing how God met with them, shaped them and provided for them in the dry and desolate landscapes of their lives.

Begins 3 March

Morning prayer: Lectio Divina

Inspired by Lectio Divina, each morning the devotional followthe simple P.R.A.Y rhythm:

P:ause to be still.
R:ejoice with a Psalm and reflect on Scripture.
A:sk for God’s help.
Y:ield to His will in your life.

On Sundays you’ll take a break from the normal routine to pray a different kind of Sabbath prayer.

The app celebrates heroes of faith on Feast Days, marks significant moments in the church calendar, and welcomes guest hosts throughout the year.

Midday prayer: Intercession

At midday you’ll pause to pray The Lord’s Prayer and consider a short reflection to connect with God. The prayer each day will be focused on compassion: moving attention off of your agenda to see the world around you from God’s perspective, interceding for his kingdom to come.

Night prayer: The Examen

Evening prayer gives the opportunity to focus your thoughts on God as you prepare to sleep. With calming music, the devotion takes inspiration from the early Christian practice of Examen:

Reflect on the day that has passed, relinquishing stress and control.

Rejoice in God’s goodness, noticing his presence throughout the day.

Repent of sins, receiving forgiveness for what has gone wrong.

Rest in readiness for sleep.

Try something ancient…

Jesus and his disciples followed the Jewish tradition of praying three times a day. The early church continued this practice, uniting not simply around a weekly meeting but also around a daily rhythm of prayer. This practice of returning to God over and over again in the day helped to launch the church all over the world. With Lectio 365, we want to revive the ancient rhythm of prayer in the modern church.

Experience God’s presence

Time each day to remember who you really are, who God really is, and the story you are living in. Take your eyes off of your circumstances and turn your attention to God: deliberately interrupting your ordinary, everyday life to remember who you’re living for.

Lectio 365 morning prayers are inspired by the ancient practice of “Lectio Divina” (meaning “Divine Reading”), a way of meditating on the Bible that’s been used by Christians for centuries.

Lectio 365 midday prayers are centred around The Lord’s Prayer.

Lectio 365 night prayers are inspired by the Ignatian practice of The Examen, which is a way to prayerfully reflect on your day.

“Now it really is a habit. I have also found myself staying on at the end and extending my quiet time to listen to God and to pray for people in my life. It’s also given me a hunger for the Bible that I didn’t have before.”

-Lectio 365 User

“As a person who has a hard time getting my mind to stop racing and rest in Christ, this app is a huge blessing.”

-Lectio 365 User

Lectio 365 content is available in written and audio format, and devotionals can be downloaded a week in advance to be read or listened to later. Content remains available in the app for 30 days.

The Lectio 365 Story

Lectio 365 is the daily devotional resource of the international 24-7 Prayer movement and particularly of its religious order the Order of the Mustard Seed. Launched in Advent 2019, Lectio 365 has grown quickly to accompany hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin and end their day with God. Lectio 365 is currently available in English and Spanish and we hope to include other languages in the next two years. The model of prayer, inspired by Lectio Divina (morning) and the Examen (night) seeks to “pray the Bible,” exploring the six practices of the Order of the Mustard Seed: loving God through prayer and creativity, loving others through justice and hospitality and loving the world through learning and mission.

The 24-7 Prayer Story

Lectio 365 is produced by 24-7 Prayer. 24-7 Prayer began accidentally in 1999, when one simple student-led prayer vigil went viral, and groups all over the world joined in to pray non-stop. Now, nearly 25 years later, thousands of communities have taken part in 24-7 Prayer (in-person and virtually) in their churches, communities and cities.

We’ve helped individuals all over the world to encounter God in prayer rooms – now we want to help people develop a daily relationship with Jesus. This is our vision for Lectio 365: to help millions of people to learn to pray the Bible every day and go deeper in prayer each morning and night.
