Online Prayer Ideas

With so many communities unable to meet in person, try some of these online prayer ideas to dig deep and seek God’s presence in this challenging season:

1. Group ideas
2. Creative Ideas
3. Prayer Challenges

Group ideas

Try the following over a group video call:

PRAY THE PSALMS

The Psalms contain prayers for all seasons and emotions. Try reading a Psalm each day as a group (or a couple of Psalms each week), and use them as the basis for your prayers.

TAKE TIME TO LISTEN

Don’t be afraid of silence – invite the Holy Spirit to reveal Bible verses, prophetic words and encouragements to your group over video. Try taking turns to listen so that everyone has an opportunity to be encouraged.

USE THE NEWS

Try opening an online newspaper or news site, and share your screen. Encourage different people to pray for different stories, or ask God to highlight specific areas that you can pray into, together.

PRAY THE LORD'S PRAYER

The model of the Lord’s prayer is a great way to pray through various themes. Try working through the lines one by one, or go deeper by studying the Prayer course online together each week.

Creative Ideas

How to use websites and apps to get praying:

CREATE A PRAYER ROOM ON YOUR PHONE

Download our Inner Room app, and add your own photos, prayer points and reminders to pray each day. Try setting aside a time each day to pray using the app – or challenge yourself to swap it with one of your favourite apps for a week.

USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO PRAY

With creative apps like Word Swag and Canva, you can create images with Bible verses or prayers that you can post on social media. Try challenging yourself to share a prayer on Instagram.

CREATE ONLINE PRAYER BOARDS

Add photos, prayer points and Bible verses to virtual boards that you can use individually or share with others. We’ve found that Pinterest, Trello or Padlet can be really helpful!

Prayer Challenges

Try one of these challenges to incorporate prayer into your weekly rhythms:

WEEKLY PRAYER MEAL

Gather some friends online and commit to pray together over food.

You might like to host a prayer breakfast, or prayer supper club where you take time to intentionally pray for one another and your community.

GET PRAYER WALKING

If you’re able to leave your home to go for a walk each day, why not intentionally prayer walk around your local community?

You could gather a group online and pray together before you walk individually, and then come back online together at the end and share what God was saying.

(Get equipped - check out our guide to prayer walking, but remember not to walk as a group if it's not permitted in your country at the moment)

RUN A VIRTUAL PRAYER ROOM

Try running non-stop prayer online with your community! Check out our guide and get started.

Remember, you don’t have to run a week of non-stop prayer if it feels too daunting! Start with 24 or 48 hours, depending on the size of your group, and don’t be afraid of those late night and early morning slots!
