Created by the Kansas City Boiler Room

All: In the name of the Father
, and of the Son
, and of the Holy Spirit
, amen.

Leader: In the evening, Lord, You bring peace to our minds. Our day we offer to You, leaning into Your love, Your grace, and Your rest.

A moment is taken to still our souls and quiet ourselves before God

Leader: Lord God, You reign on high. You dwell in unapproachable light.

And still You welcome us into Your arms.

All: We lift up our voices in praise. We lift up our minds in awe and wonder.

We lift up our lives in sacrifice. Delight in us as You teach us to delight in you.

Reflection on Job 36

Leader: Look, God is all-powerful. Who is a teacher like him?

No one can tell him what to do. No one can say to him, `You have done wrong.' Instead…

All: Glorify his mighty works, singing songs of praise, for
Who is like our God?

Leader: Everyone has seen these things, but only from a distance.

All: Who is like our God?

Leader: God is exalted beyond what we can understand. His years are without number. He draws up the water vapour and then distils it into rain. The rain pours down from the clouds, and everyone benefits from it. Can anyone really understand the spreading of the clouds and the thunder that rolls forth from heaven?

All: Who is like our God?

Leader: See how he spreads the lightning around him and how it lights up the depths of the sea. By his mighty acts he governs the people, giving them food in abundance. He fills his hands with lightning bolts. He hurls each at its target. The thunder announces his presence; the storm announces his indignant anger.

All: Who is like our God?

Psalm 104

Leader: Praise the LORD, O my soul.

All: All that is within me, praise the Lord.

Leader: O LORD my God, you are very great;

All: You are clothed with splendour and majesty.

Leader: He wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent
and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.
He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind.
He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.

All: Praise the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Praise the Lord!

Leader: You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.
But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work. He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate—bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart. The moon marks off the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. Then man goes out to his work, to his labor until evening.

All: Praise the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Praise the Lord!

Leader: How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small. These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.

All: May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works- he who looks at the earth, and it trembles; who touches the mountains, and they smoke.
I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Praise the Lord!

Time of worship

Leader: Father, stir in us a desire to know You. To stand in awe and wonder, and to bow in devotion and humility. Our lives are not our own.

All: Help us, may we love You will all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Make us true to Christ.

Leader: Jesus, you said that the world would know us through the way we treated one another. You are teaching us to lay down our lives for our friends.

All: Help us, may we love each other as You have loved us. Let our lives display kindness to all people.

Leader: Great darkness covers the earth. But You, God, are rising in an even greater light. Creation groans, and the Spirit and the Bride are crying out, “Come!”

All: Help us, may we love the world and take the gospel to the all the nations of the earth.
