Turn your daily exercise during lockdown into a time of prayer for your neighbourhood.
It's as simple as it sounds – pray as you walk. Here are five simple ways you can start:
DECIDE WHEN AND WHERE
Do you want to begin or end your day with prayer? Maybe you want some fresh air and a change of pace to break up working from home. Decide ahead of time where you’re going to go, or ask the Holy Spirit to lead you as you walk. Just make sure you don’t get lost!
KEEP YOUR EYES AND EARS OPEN
What do you see and hear? Who lives in the homes you pass? Are there businesses, local services or community spaces near you? Respond to your environment and listen for God's nudges in how to pray.
PRAY THE POSITIVE
Even (and especially) in areas that are considered ‘dark’ or ‘desperate’, pray blessing! Focus on God’s plan, purpose and destiny for the place and the people that live there. "Your Kingdom come, your will be done..." is an excellent start. In the midst of COVID-19 pray also for peace, for hope, for protection and for provision.
RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS
Ask God whether there is a safe and simple way you could bless your neighbours. Maybe you could call or message neighbours with words of encouragement. You could offer to get or arrange delivery of groceries on behalf of those shielding. Or God could give you a word or suggest a gift to give to someone who needs it. How could you become an answer to prayer in your community?
What have you felt, seen, prayed and heard from God? Make a note on your phone or in a journal. Keep a record so you can build on it next time.
