Urban Abbey is a House of Prayer for Nottingham – where the community want to live differently.
We have a commitment to spurring each other on, with lives punctuated by communal rhythms of Prayer, Hospitality and Mission.
At our core, we have a residential community, which is wrapped around by a committed bunch of people who live near enough to get involved in the rhythms at our physical house of prayer. Then scattered all over the city is a bigger connected layer of the community who commit to praying regularly for the 7 pillars of our city, based around prayer targets that are sent in a daily email.
We’re just beginning! The story will unfold, and we’re excited to see what happens next.
United prayer for the city has been active for about 50 years – Urban Abbey is the next evolution of that ecumenical prayer.
Mike & Alison Davies sensed an invitation to set up a physical location that could be a hub for city-wide prayer. That initial dream stepped into reality in 2020, when the first iteration of a live-in community moved into an old house in the East of Nottingham. We still feel like we’re in the early formative stages, though there is a strong rhythm of prayer in place, that finds outward expression in acts of mission and hospitality too.
