Kahaila is a made up word, a mix of two Hebrew words that means “life in community”
We planted the church in the form of a coffee shop, as believe that people share life with a nice coffee and a cheeky slice of cake.
As a church we are informal, we gather on a Wednesday night 7pm in the cafe, we start with a meal, then we worship together, have a time of teaching and prayer. We have other rhythms of prayer and bible teaching throughout the week.
As a church we are passionate about mission and justice. We believe that the way we fulfill the great commission “to make disciples” is to obey the great commandment which “to love God and love your neighbour.”
Kahaila is based on Brick Lane, Shoreditch, in the heart of East London. It was founded with a vision to innovate a new model of being church to reach a completely unchurched generation with the hood news of Jesus Christ. We started in 2012.
As we have lived out the values of prayer mission and justice it has led us to start projects like opening safe houses for survivors of human trafficking, a mentoring and education programme in a womens proson, building businesses and social enterprises such as a bakery, coffee roastery, and a barista trainging centre to create training and employment, supporting some of London’s most disadvantaged people to reach their God given potential. We are a small community with a huge vision and passion to declare the year of the Lord’s favour in our beautiful city.
