Community of the Tree of Life

Meet the community

Our charism is formation and prayer. We take our name from Jeremiah 17:17, Psalm 1 and Revelation 21. Our heart’s desire is to live lives that are rooted, flourishing and fruitful in Jesus. There’s three ways we are living into this desire:

  • We welcome 18-35s into a formational year living in community
  • We’re growing a dispersed new monastic community of companions exploring a Rule of Life
  • We host a House of Prayer in the centre of Leicester, creating and sharing prayer resources and partnering with other intercessors across the city

Our Story

We like to say that our story began 800 years ago because our HOP is built on the site of an ancient Franciscan Friary. We’re taking up their legacy of prayer for our city. Today’s Community was established by the vision of our Bishop, Martyn Snow, who wanted to make prayer a priority in this Diocese. In 2017 a small group began meeting to pray and dream. By 2019, our Diocese had purchased and refurbished a large house in the city centre, right opposite the Cathedral and we opened our doors to our first residential cohort.

Now Our monthly rhythms include

  • Rule of Life workshops
  • 24 hours of non-stop prayer
  • Listening Groups for spiritual direction
  • Resourcing reconciliation work through the Difference Course

… and a joyful, messy mix of prayer walks, creativity, families and food.
