Since 2001, the Greater Ontario House of Prayer has served the body of Christ, equipping local churches in prayer
In 2011, GOHOP moved to downtown Hamilton, Canada, a depressed steel town of half a million, to develop an urban monastery with a team of ten part and full time urban monastics/missionaries and almost a hundred friends who explore and experiment with us
Prayer: We maintain a weekly prayer rhythm in our prayer room, now relocated in the basement of 541, a local eatery and community hub. We partner with other ministries in the city, pray regularly with and for local pastors and assist local congregations in expanding their prayer language and practice. Each summer, we convert a U-haul into a Prayer Truck and park it downtown, inviting the churches and community to pray together for the city.
Community, Hospitality and Learning: We help to develop intentional community houses, including one house where we host weekly community dinners. We nurture new ministry startups and facilitate the Urban Monastic Internship, helping those who want to explore prayer and mission intensively.
Mission: Our partnerships include True City, a movement that fosters collaboration amongst missional churches, the Living Rock, an organization that serves the needs of at risk youth and the Meeting Place, a local congregation in and for the red light district of our city.
Our goal: being the loving presence of a people of prayer in our churches and communities.
