"I've found my Tribe!" - Crystal's StoryCrystal Cryer - 17 Sep 2019
It was 2004 and the ministry team I was a member of was on tour in sunny California. I loved my team and believed in our vision, yet deep within me there was the whisper of something more, a sense I can only describe as a “holy discontent.”
Then one day a stranger hands me a book called Red Moon Rising. And I can still remember those evenings alone in my room, drinking in the pages as silent tears roll down my cheeks and my heart cries - “I’ve found my tribe!”
Not only had Red Moon Rising and the stories it contained gripped my heart and imagination, but it echoed those whispers in my heart of something more; those deep convictions and dreams of what can happen when prayer, mission and justice interweave.
In fact, this one book - the stories that made up the beginning of 24-7 Prayer - caused me to move to Scotland five years later - halfway across the world; something I felt God had been preparing and stirring in me since childhood.
This August marked 10 years since I came to Scotland. And this month is the 20th birthday of 24-7 Prayer.
I have encountered within 24-7 Prayer a wealth of prayer styles and spiritual practices, largely previously unknown to me, that have caused my prayer life and relationship with God to deepen and strengthen, as well as hopefully inspire others.
Involvement with this movement so beautifully diverse in culture, customs and perspective has taken me to prayer rooms in Slovakia, 24-7 Prayer conferences in Vienna, 24-7 Prayer communities in north-east Germany, and churches all across Scotland.
And what stands out to me most about these ten years is the depth of commitment to following Jesus together, as a tribe. In the diversity, in the constant growth and change - we still feel like family.
Because the vision is Jesus. He was the vision 20 years ago - and He still is.
