Miracles and Prayer in the Middle EastIan Nicholson - 4 Jun 2015

‘This is our time...’ one leader said to me.

Far from being scared or discouraged by the events in the middle east,  I found a surge of faith and expectancy as the Holy Spirit is moving in greater ways.

24-7 Prayer European Director Ian Nicholson recently returned from a field visit to the 24-7 Prayer team in Beirut, Lebanon. This is his report...

The trip was so encouraging. In our time we met with leaders of students and churches as well as joining with a prayer movement with believers from across churches uniting to worship and intercede.

There is a real growing hunger to develop a prayer movement across the region . This is our time’ one leader said to me. Far from being scared or discouraged by the events in the middle east,  I found a surge of faith and expectancy as the Holy Spirit is moving in greater ways.

The team out there visit sites regularly to deliver truck loads of food and practical aid, but is known as much for praying with those who request it.

I saw an elderly lady who had broken her arm explain how she was still incapacitated by the constant pain in her wrist - so much so she hadn’t slept that night. She could barely move her fingers and her thumb was totally immobile. We began to pray for her and a small crowd outside the door gathered to watch.

Initially her legs and hands began to tremble. She told us she felt ‘shaky inside’. Gradually, the fingers, and then her thumb, began to move more and more freely - and after 5 minutes she was clenching her fist with no pain.

There was a special sense among these people that had seen so much tragedy and loss, that the Father was simply opening them to a love and the peace beyond comprehension.

And this was not an isolated occurrence. For me, it renewed my confidence in a God who heals but who also seems to move most profoundly among the poor and at the margins where the gospel is wooing hearts.

As you pray for the Middle East please don’t pray in fear or against people. Pray that the Kingdom will come in increasing measure with signs, wonders and miracles confirming the Fathers love. Pray in faith that those, like the Apostle Paul, who live as enemies of God through ignorance, would be halted and transformed through an encounter with the Lord.

It is time for the Middle East…
