Pete Greig, January 4th, 2010
2010 marks the culmination of a decade of non-stop prayer and is destined to be the most significant year in 24-7’s history with the Campus America initiative, a year of prayer across Scotland and so many other exciting international possibilities for the decade to come. Not since 24-7 began at the turn of the millennium has there been a better time to get involved and to deepen your commitment to prayer, justice and church planting. Let me tell you why…
During the ‘noughties’ 24-7 grew from a single Prayer Room into a global movement. Along the way, hundreds of thousands of people have prayed non-stop, new churches were planted, campaigns were launched, pioneer missionaries were sent out, justice initiatives were born, films, books and songs were made and, best of all, many, many people were loved, listened to, rescued, served, championed and given a voice.
It’s been a pretty cool decade by most standards but now, as 2010 dawns, we believe that the Lord is inviting us to take the next great leap forward. Having impacted many individuals and even churches so far, He’s now calling us to impact entire communities, people-groups and even nations. There have been words given to us about preparing for a new Jesus movement, about having a global voice, about lifting people out of poverty.
To do all this we’re going to have to keep praying like crazy and keep taking risks but we’re also going to have to think long-term in ways we’ve sometimes been afraid to do in the past. We simply won’t be able to resort to our old 24-7 mantra: ‘we’ll stop whenever God does’, because after ten years of prayer, things are currently moving faster than ever, and God has made it very clear that He’s not about to stop! In fact he’s calling us onwards, to talk to individuals but also to governments, to shape the culture, to sign 25 year leases on properties, to add zeros to budgets, to do whatever – and I mean, whatever - we’ve got to do to mobilize this generation to bless the nations in His name. The stakes are way too high to sit around and play it safe.
In response to such challenges we have been preparing for massive growth by repositioning ourselves behind the scenes. All sorts of new people are cominginto place, such as Jon Petersen, the seasoned missions leader who’s going to be developing our international network of 24-7 communities, James Thomas, a successful businessman and godly father, who recently became chairman of the 24-7 Board, and the amazing person we are soon to appoint to oversee the increased effectiveness and stewardship of all our international operations.
There are three ways we can all respond:
Simply start a 24-7 Prayer Room this year and see what happens! After ten years of encouraging night-and-day prayer in thousands of locations we can say with absolute confidence that this model works and we’ll be happy to help you along the way. Or perhaps you’ve done 24-7 before and this is a time to renew your passion for prayer in 2010. Either way, click here to find out more.
As we celebrate our tenth anniversary and launch our 2020 Vision to impact the nations with prayer, we are looking for those who will partner with us in prayer and will support our vision financially too. If you agree that prayer is the highest priority for God’s people at this hour, please become a ’24-7 Supporter’ and help us grow.
You are invited to join with like-minded people from all around the world, September, at our ten-year anniversary conference in Edinburgh, Scotland. We know that it’s going to be ahinge moment for the movement, as we look back on the last ten years with unfettered thanksgiving and praise, and then look forward to the next ten years of prayer, mission and justice. Echoing Mary’s ‘Magnificat’ we’ll be celebrating the miracle that has been conceived in us by the Holy Spirit, and anticipating it’s birth to bless the nations. Get the dates on your planner now, spread the word to your friends/your church, start saving and find out more on the 24-7 site in the next few weeks.
