Macedonia: TV Coverage, Gospel and Poetry

Published: January 29th, 2009

The 24-7 Glasnost Community lives and loves God in the political, cultural, economic, and academic capital of Macedonia.  Gathering in the midst of more than a quarter of the nation’s population, they have a great vision to spread the gospel and see lives transformed for Jesus.  Their community, though small in number, has been making waves in the city as they seek the Kingdom of God in all they do.  Andy Freeman reports:

“At the beginning of November, Glasnost published it’s first ever book.  Hailed by an influential literature professor at Skopje University it features original poetry written by Toni, a member of the community and is God-centred in theme but raw and honest in its approach.  Through the book launch many heard the gospel in a totally unorthodox way.”

As they explore what it means to love others as much as we love ourselves, the community are not only sharing salvation through Jesus in new and creative ways but campaigning about the plight of those trapped in modern day slavery.  Andy continues:

“The community held a Stop the Traffik event to raise awareness about the atrocity of people trafficking.  By throwing a chocolate party they attracted those with a sweet tooth and highlighted that much of the chocolate they eat is made by enslaved children. The event drew attention from national Television and members of the community were interviewed on the issue.”

Such incredible favour and opportunities continue to be presented to this community as they live out the 24-7 Boiler Room values of staying true to Christ, loving people and taking the gospel to the nations.
