New Intimacy, miracles, healing and changed lives: 2008 saw God continue to meet with people through 24-7 Prayer all across the globe and impact their lives in important ways. Need a reason to praise at the beginning of the year? Grab a warm/cold beverage (depending which hemisphere of the world your reading this in), put your feet up, check there’s a box of tissues near by and take a look at a selection of the year’s prayers, thanks and testimonies…UK: “24-7 has been going very well. People keep saying to me 'an hour isn't enough. God has done immeasurably more than we could have asked or imagined.”
Australia: “The upstairs [prayer] room truly became the ‘Upper Room’… It became a place of tears and healing, of restoration, hope and inspiration as over 60 adults, youth and children participated...”
Philippines: “This is life changing for me. I have been praying and fasting for years but none of it can compare to praying 24-7.”
Australia: Dear God thank you for brining Jeses to earth and you are the best farther in the whole world and I love you so much! Thank you for dieing on the cross you rock amen! 7 year old - quoted as written
Kenya: “It has been a tremendous week for us in our church… The impact this duration has had in our lives is indelible and has left a permanent mark of change in our prayer patterns, the way we perceive God, and even our intimacy with God has been greatly affected. I can pray more easily than I was doing before, anytime anywhere.”
Australia: “A new [member of the church was] at the creative table [and] began to draw a picture of the Red Shield. He found himself writing, “Not just going through the motion, but Spirit Filled.” And at the bottom of the page, “When asked by JESUS, Do you love me?” “WE SAY YES!” [After two hours in the Prayer Room] he was traveling home [and] called into the local Shops. When he pulled up he saw a rather disheveled chap lying on the ground. He appeared to be asleep and was covered with bull ants. He bent down and shook [him saying]… “Wake up”, as he would be eaten by the bull ants… When he bent down close to call to him a third time the chap’s eyes opened and looked straight at him and said, “But do you love me?” He stammered… “Yes I love you”… The chap got up dusted himself of and walked away. The whole experience has really moved him and has served to strengthen his faith tremendously.”
Australia: “Saturday we prayed for rain and overnight we had 2 inches. God answers prayer”
New Zealand: “Greig rang the office to have an urgent prayer request put in the prayer room for his sister who had just had a baby... and was bleeding dangerously. From his own knowledge as a doctor, Greig knew that the condition she had was usually fatal… Not only did she recover, but she had an encounter with God through it all. As soon as she opened her eyes she apologised to family members from whom she had been estranged and there was an amazing reconciliation in the family! Isn’t God amazing!”
Northern Ireland: “One lady was overheard saying ‘I feel like I have a crown upon my head’, later we discovered that she had become a Christian whilst chatting to some of the hosts in the room!”
New Zealand: “Jenny has been teaching a weekly English class at church. Whenever she mentioned the church or the Bible to the ladies, she was met with a ‘brick wall’ response. After we started 24-7 they not only started to ask questions about church but they have also asked her to teach them English from the Bible!”
UK: “[A] girl [suffering from] anorexia wrote the most amazing prayer on the wall acknowledging God’s love for her in a way she had never been able to do
before.”
Many of you will notice that many of this year’s testimonies come from Australia. This is predominantly due to the tremendous perseverance of the Salvation Army who are now in their second year of unbroken prayer as a denomination. Ros Casey, Co-coordinator of the Southern Territory Year of 24-7 Prayer writes, “Being involved in the 24-7 prayer movement has been absolutely wonderful. Many of our churches have embraced it enthusiastically and expectantly. God is absolutely doing a wonderful thing amongst us.”
They are continuing to pray into 2009 and many people are joining them. As this movement gains momentum in both quality and quantity we look ahead with hope. What testimonies will we be sharing in just nine months time?
