Perhaps you’ve recently completed a prayer room, but you want to learn more. Perhaps you’re in a small community and you are wrestling with the questions of what it means to be a community. Perhaps you’ve recently read one of the 24-7 publications and want to learn more and engage with more 24-7 teaching. We know that not everyone can step away from life for 10 months to attend Transit and many can’t leave your communities. So, we’re bringing 24-7 teaching to you!
As we’ve discussed how to get teaching out to the communities that need it, we have developed a series of courses we’re calling "24-7 Virtual". They combine some of the best of 24-7 teachings with online discussion, groups discussions and regular contact from the 24-7 team. Two courses were piloted last year and were quite successful. We’ve spent the autumn looking at feedback, improving the courses and trying out new online interfaces.
And now the courses are back! Set to launch in late January 2009 we have courses in Prayer and Christ-Centred Community ready to go. We’re excited to be able to open this up to groups around the globe to take the next steps of learning together.
How does it work? The courses are offered to groups, not individuals. Each group is ideally 4-6 people in order for the learning to happen in the context of an existing community. Not only are individuals learning, but as a community you can wrestle with how to live out all that you’re learning. There are weekly teachings with discussion questions and action points for the group. There are also articles for added learning and online discussion forums where you can interact with other groups taking the course, the course leaders and some of the speakers. During the course you also get regular check-ins from the course leaders to see how you are progressing and to talk through any questions that have come up.
These courses are perfect for small communities seeking to grow or for those who are looking for more of a connection with 24-7 Prayer.
The Prayer course covers a Biblical perspective on prayer, creativity in prayer, creating community rhythms of prayer and enhancing your personal prayer. Speakers include Pete Greig, Andy Freeman, Tom Gillum, Jude Smith and Carla Harding. The goal of this course is not just a personal growth in prayer, but also growing together as a community of prayer.
The Community course covers the Biblical perspective on communities, the Trinity as community, hospitality, loving the poor, the three loves and how we develop communities. Speakers include Andy Freeman, Phil Togwell, Nathan and Marissa Chudd, David Blackwell, and Jude Smith. The goal of this course is to come to a greater understanding of why you are a community and to be challenged in the values of your community.
Both of these courses have been very helpful for the groups that took them during their pilots.
If you are interested in signing your group up for either of these courses, please contact Alana Wiens. The cost of the course is £200 per group.

Alana Wiens is originally from Halifax, Canada but now lives and serves 24-7 Prayer as part of the Guildford Boiler Room in the UK. Alana works with the 24-7 training team and does communication work for a church in London. She also enjoys photography, tea, talking with friends, writing and movies. Further ramblings can be found on her blog.
