What happens when children spend a week of their school life praying 24-7? One school in Honduras, Central America reports young people giving their lives to Jesus, finding spiritual peace and the disappearance of heart problems. Tiffany Fischer, a teacher at the school, tells us more…
“We have had an awesome 24-7. It was a huge success and something that was brand new to our school. I teach at a Christian Bilingual School, 10km outside the capital of Teguicgalpa, Honduras. I came as an elementary teacher but the burden for the high school kids was heavy on my heart during my first year here. The Lord knew there were big plans for my life in this school. Soon after the 2nd year here I had a vision of bringing a Young Life/Campus Crusade type setting to our school. I knew that chapel was important but we needed to build up the spiritual life of our high school to reach the kids. So many kids were lost from knowing Jesus as their personal Savior.
Well my 3rd year we started tearing down an old Chemistry room and turned it into the 212 degrees cafe/youth room. That is now our sanctuary where we meet on Friday nights for what we call LIVING OUT LOUD! Over 200 kids are attending from 7-12th grade and it's been amazing to see the fruit of the Holy Spirit working and moving in our school.
The 24-7 Prayer room was held this year during our Spiritual Emphasis Week. Many kids were confused at first what it exactly was but as the week went on it became more successful and kids came in to (skip class) and it turned out they started falling on their knees before the Lord. Hearts were softened and many people could feel the presence of the Lord. We set up the room in the form of ACTS- Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication, and students prayed through the different stations.
We have 2 journals of testimonies that just rocked my world. I realized so many of our kids have these hard tough shells on but down deep inside they are just pieces of God.
We have such an incredible mission field at the tips of our fingers here. We are working with some of the wealthiest families in all of Honduras and if they turn their lives over to Christ, imagine the impact these kids could have on the future of their country and this world. It is through the wealthy we can reach the poor... amen! I believe we have to train up these kids to go out into their country and preach the gospel!
We had one girl give her life to Christ on the last Friday of the 24-7 Prayer Room. I can't even begin to tell you the miracles that are happening right now! One girl that says she sees demons and regularly feels the presence of evil was in the room crying. She said, “Miss Fischer, I can feel the presence of the Lord in this room. It's so thick.” We sat and prayed together and talked for hours. Many kids laid their hurts and burdens at the cross.
But one of the best testimonies of all is we had gone around to the entire school about one week before we started and we got prayer requests from Administration, from nannies, bus drivers, maintenance, teachers, students, etc. One of the girls in the admin building gave a prayer request for her Mum. Her mum was dealing with a very serious heart condition and had seen many doctors and no one knew what to do about it. It was "unhandled". Well the Friday of our 24-7 prayer she went to the final doctor and got a bunch of tests done so they could come to some conclusion about what was happening.. All the tests came back negative! It was a miracle… Nothing was wrong… Nothing showed up! It was a testimony of the power of prayer."
