IN DEPTH>>>
It was amongst drug addicts in Hong Kong, whilst working with the missionary Jackie Pullinger, that Pete Greig really found his Christian faith and received what he describes as 'a clear call from God to go home to England'. Inspired by his experiences in Hong Kong, Pete decided to read Theology & Sociology at the University of Greenwich in London.

After graduating with a B.A. (Hons) Pete moved to Chichester on the South Coast of England and worked in a Care Home where he looked after young adults with severe Learning Disabilities.

In 1994 Pete married Samie, and for seven years served vocationally on the senior leadership team of Revelation Church, a non-denominational group of congregations in and around Chichester. During this time, Pete and Samie established two new congregations amongst young people beyond the reach of traditional church culture.  Pete also served nationally on the core team of Cultural Shift, a catalytic gathering of young leaders  experimenting with fresh expressions of church within the emerging, post-Christian culture.

In 1999, sensing a call to a deeper life, Pete surrendered his pastoral responsibilities and mobilised the student congregation of Revelation church to establish a single, simple, night-and-day prayer room inspired by the Moravian hundred year prayer meeting. The idea caught on unexpectedly and became the 24-7 Prayer movement as it is known today. Soon after the conception of 24-7 and a few weeks after the birth of their second child, Samie became seriously ill and nearly died. This event profoundly altered the way they thought about life, prayer and eternity. The story is told in Pete's books Red Moon Rising and, more particularly, in God on Mute which explores unanswered prayer.

In 2005 the Greig family returned to England from Kansas City where they spent a fun year establishing a national office for 24-7 Prayer, USA and eating Krispy Creme doughnuts.

They now live  in Guildford (just south of London) where Pete is one of the leaders of The Guildford Boiler Room. Samie's health has now recovered sufficiently for her to be studying for a BA in English Literature and Intecultural Communications at the University of Kingston. Pete is the International Director of the 24-7 Prayer Community.

When he's not working, Pete enjoys pubs with log-fires, decent comedy, real coffee, Asterix comics, art galleries, hiking in the Scottish mountains with his dog 'Noodle', lots and lots of music, supporting Portsmouth Football Club, bursting bubble-wrap, eating Chicken Tikka Biryani. And God. Not necessarily in that order.
