24-7 Ibiza Summer teams report
1. This year has seen 54 individuals taking to the streets of the west end of San Antonio for 24-7prayer, including ourselves as residents, 2 on longer term summer mission and 31 members of short term 24-7 prayer missions teams.
2. During June, July and August we have prayed for at least 600 hours in the prayer room.
3. Throughout June, July and August we have taken prayer requests and prayed for over 1100 people (both workers and tourists) who would not call themselves practicing Christians. These are just the quantifiable ones pinned to the prayer room wall. As a long-term team we will also be out on the streets for all of September and part of October.
4. Throughout the summer we have taken at least 25 people suffering from an excess of alcohol or drugs, either to hospital or their hotel, and have called ambulances for several others. We usually find them unable to walk, vomiting and unable to retain water, or laying asleep in the street in their own vomit. Even if they are able to remember the name of their hotel, taxis will not take them in this state. More recently we have been phoned by a bar owner and another worker in the west end to ask us to take people home.
5. We have given out over 100 kilos of oranges on beaches, creating another opportunity to talk about Jesus and sometimes pray for people, as well as raising awareness of who we are.
6. We have spent time with people in our prayer room; these include Muslims, various drunks, a member of Sinn Fein and ‘non-practicing’ Christians.
7. On the streets we have stood and prayed with the bereaved, the lonely, the sick, the drunk, the drugged, the stressed, the worried and the happy (and also one night for a fully costumed Superman, Spiderman and Batman!)
8. We have seen God answer prayers for healing, protection and provision from people on the street; now we are regularly stopped by workers asking for more prayer. We have developed relationships with those working in the west end through regular contact, conversation and prayer.
9. Our 24-7 Ibiza T shirts are now widely recognised by west end regulars and attract the attention of new arrivals who often stop us or call out to us to ask us who we are or what we are promoting.
10. We have given out food, tried to arrange prison visits; we have talked to strippers, bar owners, workers and holidaymakers, chatted with worried parents and made friends with various people – English and Spanish - who work in San An all year round.
11. We have conducted church services for the Anglican church, many of whom support us in prayer and have prayed in our prayer room. The Spanish church in Ibiza (town) brought 18 people to pray one night.
12. We have prayed, worshipped and had fun in a number of clubs: Privilege, Amnesia, Pacha, Es Paradis, Eden and Space. We have prayed in various places throughout the island, the old Town, the beaches and most of the ports.
13. We have given our 24-7 Ibiza prayer card with little encouragement cards to a number of DJ’s including Fat Boy Slim.
14. We have cleared land at the international school on the island, which has been greatly appreciated and has given us an ideal opportunity to pray around the school as we worked. |
