Christian relief and development agency Tearfund has launched a campaign encouraging Christians around the world to pray for poor communities.  24-7 Prayer UK has responded by mobilizing Tearfund partners and the 24-7 UK network to pray night and day to effect a global change on poverty.

The ‘Be Part of a Miracle’ campaign aims to lift 50 million people out of poverty through a worldwide network on 100,000 churches.  With millions of Christians praying over the next 10 years this will be one of the largest prayer movements focused on the poor and oppressed the world has ever seen.

“In the next 10 years at least 30 million people will go hungry because of climate change and currently 1.1 billion people lack access to safe, affordable water.” says Matthew Frost, Tearfund’s Chief Executive.  “We are asking people to commit and join a worldwide movement of Christians praying for change.”

Will you pray for the eradication of poverty and injustice?

If you’re interested in finding out about the many ways you can get involved visit bepartofamiracle.org and register your pledge to pray. Each time an individual, group, or church signs on to pray they will appear on a map of the world, denoting the country and area where they live.

Although this is predominantly a UK initiative, please do not feel excluded if you’re of a different nationality.  If you feel moved to pray against poverty and you’re happy to receive resources from England then find out more and get involved.  Phil Togwell, 24-7 Payer UK team leader says, “All over the UK 24-7 has helped people learn to talk to God.  Now we want to encourage everyone to use their voice to make a difference in world poverty.”

The ‘Global Poverty Prayer Week’ taking place between 12-18 November, 2007 is the kick off for Tearfund's 'Be Part of a Miracle' campaign.  During that week, churches hungry to hear God and keen to be part of a miracle will be running special 24-7 Prayer Rooms in addition to holding meals for the poor or making time in their Sunday services to pray.

We’re calling the 24-7 Prayer movement, predominantly though not exclusively in the UK, to join us in prayer.  We’ve learnt to pray by praying, now lets use the power of prayer to fight injustice in our nations and all over the earth.

Run a 24-7 Prayer Room for the Global Poverty Prayer Week and receive information and materials from Tearfund and 24-7 to help you pray.  This is a unique opportunity to be part of beginning of a wave of unprecedented prayer to fight poverty.

Watch the 24-7 UK website in the coming weeks for ways to get resources to more effectively take part in this prayer initiative.

Be part of a miracle.
