We are now just a month away from the launch of the Guildford 24-7 House of Prayer. It is so exciting to see it all developing and we are very expectant about a fresh wave of worship and intercession in our town.  Guildford Boiler Room is partnering with local Churches to launch of the year of prayer over the weekend of 19th and 20th January, coinciding with the first date of the 24-7 Prayer UK nationwide tour.

  • Starting at 11 am there will be stories, workshops and seminars and a chance to engage with some of the incredible things God is doing around the nation – and world.
  • An evening celebration at 7.30 pm will include vibrant worship and 24-7 Prayer International Director Pete Greig will be speaking. Local Christians, local church leaders and 24-7 will be involved with the launch of the House of Prayer.
  • The first hour of the House of Prayer will be gathering at 8 pm to worship and share communion at the cross behind Guildford Cathedral. Who knows what the weather will be but we want to dedicate our first hour to God and overlooking our town.

The locations for the weeks of prayer are coming together.

  • The 24-7 Prayer week in January is being held at St Saviours Church between the 20th and 27th of the month.
  • The 24-7 Prayer week in February is in St Mary’s on Quarry Street between the 17th and 24th of that month.
  • The 24-7 Prayer week in March, which is also Easter week, is going to be at the Salvation Army on Woodbridge Road between the 16th and 23rd of that month.
  • Other possible locations include shops, the campus, a bus and Guildford YMCA.

The first week at St Saviours in January, coincides with the Week of Prayer for Christian unity – it is the centenary this year with a theme of ‘Praying without ceasing’.  Local clergy will be leading an hour of prayer each lunchtime for unity and each morning there will be an hour of prayer hour based around Celtic liturgy. More expressive ‘Harp and Bowl’ events are planned for some evenings and others have asked about an hour where we can pray for physical healing. This is so exciting!

Obviously, most hours will be filled randomly but we would love to see designated hours of prayer where business people meet, or for schools, International students, the poor, for children etc. We would love to have hours of silent meditation and others of exuberant praise! The possibilities are endless.  If there are at least two or three who would like to pray we will block out hours for different expressions of the church in the town – we are producing a programme for the week so others in the UK at that time can join you.

We are very expectant about this growing prayer momentum. We want to see God glorified, the church united and new expressions of His kingdom emerging in the town and being launched from the town. Guildford has an outward respectability, but we want to see a wholehearted recklessness expressed in the House of Prayer.

The Guildford 24-7 Boiler Room is facilitating the House of Prayer and in particular Daniel Jones is administrating the weeks.  The easiest way to book in your prayer slots will be to register online.

When the Moravians were led by the Spirit to pray without ceasing it led to a huge impact and advance of the gospel globally. 25% of each year being filled with continuous prayer is a huge step forward for us here in Guildford – who knows where it may lead
