Justice Speaks! Event held to end Modern-Day Slavery
Rebecca Dunning  20th Aug 10

Several of us artists banded together and presented our talents and crafts at an event called Justice Speaks! in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  We organised the day in an effort to raise not only awareness but also funds to combat modern day slavery.  The free event took place in a fair trade, coffee shop and was open to the public.  The thought behind the event was to instigate others to realize that regardless of age, talent, financial position or title that anyone can have impact when they lend their voice.

Justice Speaks! featured live music by Ben and Robin Pasley of Enter The Worship Circle and Karla Adolphe, a justice orientated spoken word and visual art by Clint Dunning, video by Andy Mitchell as well as the launch of my book, The Real-Life Princess.  Snippets of stories and a few statistics were sprinkled in to engage the minds of those who came for the show in hopes that they would continue on their journey in coming to understand this plague of international proportions.

The collaborative also featured hand-made, all natural body products by Lotion Bar Café and micro-enterprise goods offered by Yobel Market.  Many of the items for sale were made by the very women who have been or are at risk to enter the sex slave trade, in an effort to give them a dignified way to support themselves.

Ten percent of the proceeds of the event went to Just 24-7, the justice initiative of 24-7 Prayer.  The turnout was substantial with the group being asked to repeat the event, October 2, 2010 at a different venue.  All in all, it was a step forward in the endeavor to see an end to the injustice of human trafficking.
