Euro Voices - Germany
Ralf Neumann  16th Jul 10

This weeks Euro Voice blog comes from the North East of Germany, one of the most atheistic areas of all Europe. It's here that the 24-7 community 'Polylux' have been living and working for 3 years.

So it's a very hot and exciting summer in Germany, since Oezil, Mueller, Schweinsteiger & Co surprised us all by playing a great World Cup! Here in the very North East of the country people are regarded as being rather reserved - but we had quite a few traffic jams because people were madly celebrating another World Cup game!

As a community called "polylux" (which means "much light"), consisting of 6 adults and 3 kids, we have lived in this town called Neubrandenburg for almost 3 years now. What we can tell you is that things are moving! Only slowly most of the time, step by step - but God is at work!

Just to give you a few examples: During the past year, there are more and more friendships being built with people who live in one of the most deprived parts of town. Stories from the Bible are being told to children who would never enter a church building.

We've been praying a lot, playing football with kids and put on a concert for young men and women who have mostly been to jail before. We're trying to support families by just spending time with them and explaining why we celebrate Easter and Christmas.

To be honest, quite often it feels like nothing is happening. At times we just try to organise our daily lives or to rest from our jobs. It doesn’t always feel as thrilling as when we first moved here. But then we know we're in the right place! God is moving, presenting us with open doors and cool possibilities.

Some prayer points:
For Neubrandenburg

  • For God to reveal himself to people in one of the most Athiest places in Europe!

  • God's guidance, wisdom and vision for the next steps to take as a community

  • For more friendships to be built and for opportunities to talk about Jesus

  • For each of our community members individually: Kaddi, Ina, Moni, Basti, Zoe, Naomi, Julie, Katharina and Ralf

  • We're dreaming of many more communities to arise in the North East of Germany in the future - why not join is in praying for this now

For 24-7 Prayer Germany

  • For a good ideas, vision and more people to join in as we reorganise the national structure of 24-7 prayer

  • For our small communities in Frankfurt, Ramsdorf, Radebeul, Ludwigsburg, Dortmund, Erkelenz and Neubrandenburg

For Germany

  • Perspectives, passion and employment opportunities for young people, especially in East Germany
  • For the church not to hide behind their walls and programmes, but to rise up, especially in taking care of the poor
  • For the German Government and our new Federal President, Christian Wulff
