Euro Voices - Malta
Scot Bower  30th Apr 10

As we continue to explore the prodigal continent of Europe with our regular 'Euro Voices' blog posts we look this week to a small but incredibly significant island in the Mediterranean Sea.

Ever since man could sail the sea Malta has been of strategic significance. Over the ages Greeks, Romans, Crusading Knights and the British empire have all occupied the island and used it as a military base. St Paul was shipwrecked there on his way to Rome and the same fate has recently befallen many refugees and migrants from North Africa.

I  caught up with our friend Claude Marsh who helps to organise prayer and justice initiatives on the island. Claude has been travelling a fair bit recently and I certainly caught his enthusiasm for what he has seen God doing around Europe.

A small number of us have been running a prayer room in a central location on Malta for more than 2 years now. We have recently started running 2 hour prayer meetings using primarily the Harp and Bowl method for corporate prayer.

I have recently been travelling around Europe and have caught a glimpse of what God is doing and desires to do.  I was in Berlin, Germany and there met different people from wildly different backgrounds, former drug addicts who want to reach the homeless and Pastors who grew up in West Berlin and have been praying in the Prophetic destiny God has put over the city. I was also in Amsterdam where I spent my time with YWAMers and God has given so many different people ideas and callings that it is impossible to believe He will not bring them to fruition.

Last week I heard of a man surrendering His life to Jesus in the middle of the Red light District of Amsterdam as a team were worshipping there. Two days later I was at a conference in Malta where a Jehovah’s Witness accepted Jesus as God and King over her life, she was also, at least partially healed from a shoulder injury.

More Jesus more!!! I believe God is releasing a lot of ideas and creativity to different parts of the Body in Malta and around Europe as part of His desire to see nations disciple.

Claude asks us to pray for Malta:

  • Pray for the established Church in Malta and Europe.
  • Pray for unity in the Body of Christ on Malta. That the Church might join together as one with the goal of exalting Jesus as king over the nation
  • Pray that labourers and resources would be raised to reach all on Malta.

Claude ends his email to me with this encouragement.

Let us pursue God for what He has called us to be and do, that we may usher in His return to this continent and this Earth.
