A few years back at one of the international 24-7 Prayer gatherings a friend from Guildford threw out an idea. It was the final day of the weekend, It may even have been the last meeting of that day when the thought was voiced. The idea was/is staggeringly simple: that each day at midday we all pray the Lords Prayer. No matter which time-zone you are in you were invited to consider setting the alarm on your mobile/cell phone and to take a minute or so at lunch time to pray the prayer Jesus gave us, if you were with friends at the time even better!
One of the great things about this simple plan is that we are joining
together all over the world and agreeing ‘let your Kingdom come and your
will be done.’
And so I’m now wondering just how far this little scheme has gone? how many time-zones are praying at the top of the hour at mid-day?
Also setting your alarm and praying at 12:00 must have led you to pray in some beautiful, crazy, weird and wonderful locations and I’d love to hear and share in those memories. Personally I can remember praying silently outside a hospital ward and out loud as I strolled across a piazza in Assisi. There have been plenty of lovely people I’ve been able to pray with and for too thanks to this simple idea.
How about letting us know if you’re praying or planning to join us in praying the Lords Prayer at midday and if you have been praying; what’s your favourite memory of the places and people this has led you to pray in and with?
