Tap, tap, tap, submit! A nomination for the ‘Best use of Rich Media in Christian web sites’ category of the ‘Christian Web and New Media Awards’ was travelling through the web towards its final destination. Several months later I received a surprise email that 24-7shorts.com had been selected as one of the finalists for the award! Not only that, but one of our joint Worther’s/Ratio 7 projects, divinematch.co.uk, a Christian singles networking site, was also selected for ‘Best Christian Organisation web site’.
So on the Friday evening of 18thSeptember, myself and 3 others from our team entered St Steven’s Wallbrook (home of the London Internet Church) and were greeted by numerous bloggers, web developers, web site owners and editors for what promised to be an entertaining evening. It wasn’t long before we found ourselves sipping champagne and discussing the history of the building with the Bishop of London.
After a lovely meal, great company and live music, the award ceremony began. The tension mounted as the categories and finalists were introduced. There were some great blogs and amazing uses of the web. One of my favourite was from a closed order of nuns who won their category and delivered their acceptance speech by video! We were just excited to be there and didn’t have any further expectations but as the rich media category was announced, we couldn’t believe it when 24-7shorts.comwas announced as winner!
And then to top it all, our team also won the ‘Best Christian Organisation web site’ for divinematch.co.uk. It may not have been the Oscars or the Nobels but it felt like it to us!
So we now have an award for one of the 24-7 sites and the great thing is this project was a team effort from several people across the 24-7 movement. Special thanks go to Bob Jobe, Samuel Bowles, Pete Ward, Jon Nott, Ben Hull, the several translators and those starring in the films themselves (you know who you are). This award is for you and all you do that often goes unseen!
